The History of Derkomai so far
As said in
The Fall from the Stars, humans originated on Earth, and came to Derkomai on their starship, the Terra Nova. The landing ships from the Terra Nova crashed when the
Nop Derk Safir stopped the functioning of all electrical, AI, and gravitonic systems. Thousands of the first humans on Derkomai died in the crashes, and those that survived were scattered all over the surface of Derkomai. The crash sites of the landing ships were the basis for the original human colonies on Derkomai. Many more of the first humans would have died, if not for the help of the
Elvirim and in some instances, the
Dwarvirim. The first years of humanity on Derkomai were tragic, and the human colonists struggled to survive without the technologies that they had brought with them and then lost. They learned basic survival skills and technologies from the
Elvirim and
Dwarvirim. They fought to protect themselves from the
Orkrim and establish safe places to live. Fortunately, some of their animals survived, and they were able to recover plant seeds and begin to grow crops and establish themselves. After a generation or two, humans had made a permanent place on Derkomai, and their population began to grow. However, with the loss of all of their advanced technology, including recording/playback systems, knowledge of their true origins was eventually almost completely lost, becoming just legends of a place in the stars.
The
Elvirim,
Dwarvirim, and
Orkrim were already living on Derkomai before the humans arrived. Their origins are unknown. They may have evolved from earlier species on Derkomai, but the sciences of archaeology and genetics are unknown on Derkomai.
Current Species & Cultures
The
Elvirim, the
Dwarvirim, and the
Orkrim are the original humanoid species living on Derkomai.
The humans of Derkomai, having been scattered all over the planet when they crashed, naturally formed villages, then towns, then cities, then eventually countries in the regions where the landing ships crashed. Over nearly 6000 years, countries were established and fell, and new ones were founded, wars were fought, and societies were established, each with its own characteristics. Because the technology level is low, governments tend to be established by the strongest, leading to monarchies and imperial dynasties governing the larger countries, while small countries and less populated regions tend still to be tribal.
Needs & Relations
Humans are shorter lived than the
Elvirim and
Dwarvirim, but reproduce much more quickly, so humans are always looking to expand their territories, looking for new farmland and grasslands for grazing. They also need materials, especially metals, for manufacturing the implements they need for farming, cooking, and fighting.
Elvirim are very long-lived, reproduce slowly, and like quiet and solitude. They tend to be peaceful, but can be eventually provoked to violence. As the human population has expanded, they have been forced to move away from their original home areas into less desirable locations, in some cases closer to
Orkrim villages, which leads to conflicts.
Dwarvirim are also long-lived, but not as long-lived as the
Elvirim. They tend to live in mountainous regions, and they love making beautiful and useful things from metal. In the past, they lived mostly in harmony with the
Elvirim, with whom they traded stone and metal goods for fabrics, finely-built furniture, and other crafted goods.
The
Orkrim are xenophobic and extremely hostile towards both the
Elvirim and
Dwarvirim. In the past, the
Elvirim and
Dwarvirim avoided the
Orkrim as much as possible, but the expansion of the human population has dislocated
Elvirim and
Dwarvirim people, putting them in conflict with the
Orkrim more often.
