The Ashborn Forest
During the War of the Dragons, the area, where the Ashborn Forest rises now, was completely destroyed by a huge Firedrake. His fiery wrath reduced every plant, every creature and almost every building to cinders and ruins.
Still, life will find a way and after centuries, the whole area recovered. On the ashes of the past, the lush green forest arose. It grew out of the bones of the former inhabitants and even though it is seen as proof for the endurance of life, a lot of dark tales are told about the mysteries of the Ashborn Forest.
Travelers prefer to journey along the river Rhyn from Rhynmouth to Three River Crossing. However, if they are in a hurry and they can't avoid it, they use the Eastern Road through the forest. Most of them have to take a break at the Halfway Inn, but no-one lingers.
Some brave hunters might seek their prey in the outskirts of the forest, but none dares to venture in too deep.
Some adventurers might take a trip to the unknown depth of the forest, in the hope of finding excitement and most of all treasure in the ruins, that can still be found there. But only few manage to come back....
Geography
The Ashborn Forest rises on the burned ruins of a well populated and fertile countryside.
In the centuries since the devastation, it has grown lush and thick and almost impenetrable. It is difficult to navigate, the trees are tall, the shrubs thorny and the vegetation seems to guard the forest against intruders.
To the North it is bordered by the River Clear Water, to the West by Three River Crossing, to the East by the Dragonbone Sea and to the South by the Rhyn.
Ecosystem
The trees are very tall and the undergrowth much thicker than anywhere else, which makes navigating the forest, away from the Eastern Road, almost impossible.
Everyone venturing deeper into the forest speaks of a feeling of unease, that can turn into outright panic, if one lingers too long. The trees seem to watch the unwary traveller with an almost sentient consciousness.
The animals within the forest also are larger and more ferocious than usual. There are many tales of monsters or ghosts haunting the deeper recesses of the forest.
Ecosystem Cycles
Even though the four seasons, which are quite distinct in this area of Telamoth, do seem to take effect, there is always a feeling of decay and Amberfell around the trees of the forest. Some trees are permanently wearing Amberfell colours and a lot of the vegetation never seem to succumb to Silvermeet and loose their leaves. In the heat of Sunway the atmosphere is moist and stifling and throughout the year, fog and mist linger among the trees and shrubs.
Localized Phenomena
Everything, plant or animal, seems to be larger and more dangerous than in other parts of Telamoth.
Not many people, who venture deeper into the Ashborn Forest make it back again and those who survive are often no longer quite sane, but they do tell stories of ferocious monsters and ruins haunted by ghosts.
