Section 13 Organization in Dark Heart: Maleficarum | World Anvil

Section 13

The organization developed by the British to combat supernatural threats, John Dee's secrets have put the organization in a position of authority and prestige.   Mostly suited for dealing with the Fae Folk the suffuse the English isle, and have spread throughout Europe, they work closely with other organization on the mainland to make a more complete defense against the supernatural.   The British were the first to create a department specifically devoted to fighting the supernatural, at the insistence of John Dee and Queen Victoria. First does not necessarily mean best, but at a time where no one else was prepared, their skills were invaluable. Earning the crown quite a bit of goodwill, as well as favors owed, which they have put to good use expanding themselves yet again.   Section 13 is on the small size, compared to organizations like the Federal Bureau Of Containment and Defense and Gendarmerie pour la Destruction du Occulte, Section 13 most commonly operates in teams of two or three. These teams are permanent within the organization, and each one is specialized towards a certain type of threat, much like the taskforces of the FBCD. These pairings are often for the entire career for the agents involved, cultivating a close bond that allows them to know the insides and outs of each other's personalities, fears, skills, and abilities.   Their most common threat Section 13 faces is that of the Fae, and the Fae Kingdoms. More specifically, the Archfae and their machinations. Regularly making use of the very creatures that could possibly pose a threat to the English populace, the Section stands as a stalwart guard against the plots and plans of very real fairy tale creatures.   Housed in a building known as the Registry, that also gives the Section one of it's more commonly used nicknames.

Structure

The hierarchy of, and by extension appointments to the Section are made personally by the Crown. It's said that Dee technically has final say, but if so he has never exercised the right. Always finding some way to fit newly minted agents into the organization somewhere.

Culture

Due to their lower manpower, the Section tends to take a preemptory stance on the supernatural. Potentially upstart Archfae are quickly dealt with using bribes, or outright killed. Spirits are not left to haunt unless they can be compelled, in the most arcane sense of the word, to leave the living alone.    Outside of England, the isles, and their other territories, they tend to take an observational role. Merely marking down the locations and details of supernatural infestations and events unless they directly threaten British interests.

Assets

The largest collection of Cold Iron and anti-Fae charm equipment in the world, as well as agents at the height of skill for combating the supernatural. As a slight manpower boost, the Section has several children organizations that operate overseas and across country. Mostly to keep an eye on Englands colonial territories.    The largest registry of monsters, creatures, spirits, and relicts; plus all information the Section has gathered on them.
