Far East Section Organization in Dark Heart: Maleficarum | World Anvil

Far East Section

England has plays running parallel to each other, across the world, and not always aware of each other.   To facilitate this, the crown has crafted several bastions of authority across the world. This mentality has also spread to the organizations created after the Grand Reveal. While Section 13 watches the home isles, England's colonies also needed a watchful eye.   The Far East Section, also known as Section 17, is one of those descendant groups. Operating out of the Beijing Legation Quarter, they are the only fully fledged agency to do so. Other agencies like the Federal Bureau Of Containment and Defense and the Gendarmerie pour la Destruction de L'Occulte have small attaches in the area, usually tasked with protecting their respective countries assets and nothing more.   The Far East Section, on the other hand, has the necessary resources to protect English investments. With enough equipment for too few hands, they will often pull from native agencies (most commonly local temples) who are suited for the Section's type of work. It goes without saying that not all locals are happy with this sort of arrangement. Probably more accurate to say that most aren't, but no one is keeping track.   The section doesn't hold any particular specialization, though they do have an abundance of occult and arcane resources at their disposal, as they are gathered near their headquarters ready to ship out. As reticent to pull from said stocks as they are. There's always some bookkeeper going into conniptions over messing with the regular shipments.   While not specialized, they certainly have more experience with dealing with the spiritual due to their location. China is a hotbed for all sorts of different spirits, such as theĀ Hundun, an insidious spirit that moves towards anarchy and destruction through possession. Not the sort of spirit that often ccan be dispatched through force of arms, without an angry mob knocking down your door in a matter of hours.

Structure

The organizational traditions of Section 13 carry over to the East as well, with the Far East Section's limited manpower generally divided into consistent duos and trios. Any native manpower is omitted from the structure both consciously and unconsciously, usually only around for a limited time, unless they are political liaisons to the native government.

Culture

Cavalier might be too weak of a word to describe the Far East Section. They do their jobs by the book, but a posting to the Far East is generally regarded as a punishment over anything else.   This has lead to a predominant attitude of uncaring, and only truly going out to do what they are explicitly told to, and very rarely (usually only from new arrivals) do they do more than the surface level work.
