Plane of Shadow

The field of shadow creates shadows and other forms of darkness. This does not mean that all places that are dark have shadow influences however. The space between the stars is dark because there is no light which means there is also no shadow there. Shadow is where light is and where light is there is shadow. Shadow is also use to steal or transfer life force and is often used for necromancy.

Temperament. As a shadow genasi you like the more calm and dark places of the world. Often preferring the night or underground areas although you don't dwell in complete darkness, a little light is needed for there to be shadows. In general shadow genasi feel les need to be social and are more introverted.
Appearance. Often of pale complexion you seem to blend in with your surroundings and are slightly dimmer than the objects around you and you seem to have shadows fall over you with no source blocking the light. Hair is often black or pale gray. Other colors do exist but all are muted. Eyes are sometimes completely black. Some have finger and toe nails that look like they have been painted black.
Superior Darkvision. Your elemental blood makes you adapted at seeing in the dark. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.
Shadow Weaver. Starting at 3rd level you can choose either the Shadow blade or darkness spell. You can cast the spell once with this trait, requiring no material components, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
Shadow Stalker. While in dim light or darkness you can take the Hide action as a bonus action. In addition you have proficiency in the Stealth skill. 

Languages. Umbran is the shadow dialect of Primordial. It is a soundless language of creating shadow images whether by magic or by blocking light with your hands. As such the written and signed language are very similar and learning the written language is enough to understand the signed language.
