New Strawm
New Strawm is a decent sized village that mainly acts as a supply and trading station for the mostly Elven village of Silverhills. Forming the terminus of a side road off the Great Western Road, it is the gateway to a mostly unmarked trail to Silverhills that requires an elven guide to reach.
As such, there are a high proportion of half-elves in New Strawm, who work as hunters, farmers, rangers and merchants/traders, and a steady flow of travelling merchants and adventurers frequently visit.
Demographics
80% half-elf, 10% elf, 10% other
Government
Alderman, elected every 5 years, reporting to the Provincial Council
Defences
An outpost of the Order of Rangers provides most defence of the area, although there is a small village guard providing nightwatchmen and general lawkeeping
Industry & Trade
Hunting and farming is the main source of food, but most money comes from the thriving trade from Silverhills to the rest of the kingdom, with a strong sideline in fees from guides and escorts.
Infrastructure
New Strawm is unusually well resourced in terms of amenities. As well as a blacksmith and several inns, it has a thriving general goods store, a trading post and a public bathhouse.
Guilds and Factions
The Alderman has a strong role in the village, but a lot of political influence comes from the elves of Silverhills, who have a strong faction in the village representing their interests.
Tourism
A steady, though small, flow of tourists, adventurers and merchants passes through the village, so it is accommodating to visitors with several well appointed inns and a public bathhouse.
Architecture
You can see the strong elvish influence clearly here, with white rendered walls facing elegant buildings, large windows, plenty of natural wood and a proliferation of plants everywhere.
Geography
Perched at the transition between the grasslands of the Kanab Flats and the scrubbier, heathlike terrain of the Bobier Flats, New Strawm is well placed to grow a selection of crops and plants requiring a very specific climate. Many tiny streams and springs flow from the Wuscayuse Hills, and many deceptively large folds and gullies hide amongst the long grasses.
Natural Resources
Game, croplands, sheep and goats, limited fishing
