The Orodáni Federation

he Federation, or the Orodáni as they are sometimes known, are seen by the citizens of The Dawning Empire as one of the primary antagonists in their lives, second only to the monsters which spew forth from The Maw. All ailments and misfortune are cursed as a Federation plots, and all of the people who live on the continent swear enmity towards the mysterious island nation. The south-east coast of Daënfel is the most trafficked region of the The Endless Sea, and all know that the Federations shores lie somewhere to the south east, beyond the mist that enshrouds the Seas. Yet few vessels set out from the Empire in that direction, and fewer still have returned. No respectable folk have ever been able to claim to have seen the shores of the island in which these people inhabit. And yet they have found their way to Daënfel's shores. Two wars are clear evidence of that, and these people have certainly left their mark on Daënfel's populace and history. The people of the Federation are referred to as the 'Orodáni', as they are different in their style and culture as much as is conceivable. Their blades are curved and one sided, their robes silken and covered in flora, and their complexion fair. People matching this description in the Empire are often reported to the nearest guard or avoided at all costs. Little is known about their homeland. Stories of jade forests, huge plains and ancient structures are all that are known. The Keep at Carrag Nuine holds a painting 'retrieved' from a Federation merchant's ship, depicting what appears to be an Orodáni village in the shadow of a foreign monument. Terrifyingly, the primary thing known about the Federation is that they utilize undead in combat. During the second Federation war, hordes of undead were deployed across Daënfel, ravaging the countryside. Interrogated Orodáni warriors seem to indicate that they worship their own God - 'the Undying King'. Little has been revealed about this overlord, but it is clear that the Federation deserve their reputation as necromancers and practicers of dark magic. Another testament to the might of the Orodáni is that they have been seen to ally with dragons in times of war. At the start of the The First Federation War, a green dragon flew overhead the Federation ships which attacked the shores of Crater Cove, destroying the naval fleet which resided there. Relations with these people have been strained, both in and out of war time. It is clear they have their sites set on the lands of this continent, but to what end? Ambassador Masako may be the only Orodáni that knows of their purpose here, as her entourage are stationed in Hope to maintain diplomatic relations. In the last few decades, trade with the Federation has slowly resumed, with traders gingerly peddling their wares with Orodáni ships at Helias, City of Silks. The Federation merchants bring in the imports of jade, tea, paper, porcelain and pepper, which are all highly prized commodities within the Empire. Recent happenings with the Federation have stirred tensions. Rumours of infiltration and ships spotted offshore have reignited talks of war, and the air is rife with this tension.
