Sasquatch

Sasquatches are bipedal humanoid demons, standing around eight to nine feet tall and weighing between six hundred and one thousand pounds. They are covered in a coarse, thick coat of fur and otherwise resemble humans with flat noses, slightly elongated arms, and enormous feet. They are secretive creatures, and for the most part their motives are unknown. Records of TCRD personnel who have seen the creatures equally describe hostility, neutrality, and outright helpfulness. The NAFZ is aware of a settlement of the creatures in Ape Canyon, Washington, but for the most part they are believed to be solitary. The species of Sasquatch is not to be confused with Skunk Apes, Yetis, Yowies, Almas, Ape Men, or any of the dozens of other similar creatures, all of which are erroneously called "bigfoot" by the general populace. Sasquatches are different from these others only by the fact that they are known to exhibit human-like intelligence as well as for their anti-surveillance field. As Technofiends, sasquatches emit a magnetic field that causes any attempt to photograph or record them to fail. TCRD experiments have actually shown that if a camera feed suddenly turns fuzzy or low-resolution, there is likely a sasquatch in the area.

History of Encounters

Pre-Apocalypse

These is credible evidence that sasquatches and some other "cryptids" existed before the Fall of Man. While no sasquatch has been available for comment, it is the belief of the TCRD that sasquatches could be the oldest known type of demon.

The Battle of Ape Mountain

An early NAFZ recon mission around Mt. St. Helens looking for survivor colonies was attacked after tracking a technological disturbance, which led them directly to the only known sasquatch settlement. The NAFZ soldiers were able to be extracted by helicopter, but had taken heavy casualties. All field recordings of the incident were rendered useless, but survivors reported being stalked through the forest, being targeted with heavy projectiles, at least one incident involving an oversized javelin, and gunfire. All further expeditions to Ape Mountain have been stopped by heavy resistance.

The Cortez Sighting

After being thrown from a supply train by a harpy, Lt. Marisol Cortez reported a presence in the forest making "loud hooting noises" on occasion, and seeing something extremely tall in her periphery on four occasions over three days. By the time she made it to a NAFZ outpost, the figure had frightened or chased off other demons at least seven times. Bodycam malfunctions indicated that the presence was a sasquatch.

Outside of New Salem

Multiple refugees arriving at New Salem have reported sasquatches in the woods, watching the city. These creatures have taken no action against the city or the refugees bound for it, and are believed to be studying the settlement. All attempts to capture the creatures have met with failure to locate them.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Sasquatches are extremely strong and have human-level intellect. They are difficult to find, leading some TCRD scientists to believe that they have some kind of psychic ward or possible invisibility powers. They do not appear able to suppress their anti-recording field, however, which has proven to be a reliable way to detect their presence. Encounter reports have indicated that the creatures are able to lift objects as heavy as a small car and throw such with accuracy. The weak point of the sasquatch is the sole of it's left foot, where the demon stone is located. They are heavily resistance to bullets, and their thick fur is capable of protecting them from some slashing weapons like knives.
