Daemon

Daemons are genetically engineered superhumans created by the TCRD. Daemons were initially developed conceptually to create possession-resistant children, but are currently being trained as demon-slaying supersoldiers. Each daemon is a unique individual, no two daemons develop the same set of abilities regardless of the creation process.

Daemon Commonalities

All daemons are neither fully human nor completely demonic. They feel the pull of both worlds. Each has a sort of instinct that drives them to cause trouble for humans, usually violent in nature, but to counteract this each also develops a "compulsion" that allows them to more easily fight off the demon influence. These compulsions are usually off-putting to full humans, especially those unfamiliar with daemons. In addition, many are physically different from humans but all have a "tell" that shows they are supernatural creatures. For non-physical tells, things like fire changing color, temperatures dropping, or shadows moving strangely can be used to identify a daemon. Finally, all daemons have a supernatural weakness that is determined by one or more of the demon "parents" of a given daemon, commonly symbols of religious faith or running water. 

The Daemon Creation Process

In order to create a daemon, the TCRD scientists must first create a human embryo. These are placed in specialized chambers that allow for the manipulation of stem cells and slowing the growth process. These embryos are then forced into a state of demonic possession by one or two demon ghosts, tricked by a combination of science and magic. The cells become "confused" and can be guided to grow closer to human than demon. By the end of the process, a baby is floating in a growth chamber in stasis, and if the demon ghosts are still detected they are banished by mystical means. In the pods, a daemon-to-be can be held for decades before being brought into the world. Daemons are given a numeric designation as soon as they are able to be born, not when they are actually brought out of the machines.
