South Hill

South Hill lays near the southwest corner of the New Jerusalem city limits and dominates the Uptown neighborhood. Perched terrace-like atop South Hill, overlooking campus and the river, are fine brick streets sixty feet wide and lined with venerable shade trees. Mansions of Georgian/Federalist design, once mill-owner homes, line both sides of both streets from Boundary to Garrison. The houses are placed side by side, uniformly twelve feet back from the brick sidewalk. A small ‘green easement’ four feet wide lies between the sidewalk and the street. The hill is a richly tended and exclusive area, unique in that it has no whispered history or troubled folklore surrounded it other than the common acts that rich society members engage in to keep what they have from being troubled by the presence of their "lessers."
