Sacred Heart Church - 554 S French Hill Street

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic church was established in 1891, leasing for a nominal sum a Unitarian building. Father Anthony Morency, 54, presides over a mostly Italian congregation.   In the late 1920s, after meeting with ranking church officials in Boston, former head of the church Father Geno Baroni received permission to seal over a portion of the catacombs and the crypts they contain. Unnerving burrowing sounds had been heard along the south wall. Records of the catacombs and for those interred within are likewise buried somewhere in the yellowed files of the Archdiocese of Boston. A small trap door in the basement, covered over by a layer of concrete, leads to these forgotten subterranean chambers. That concrete is now old and has badly chipped, cracked, and flaked with the passage of time and the shifting of the building over the years. What may be lurking down there, hidden down there, or waiting to be released by the inquisitive may soon be known.   Father Anthony's beloved cat, Francis, also lives here in the parsonage and around the church. He is a younger tortoiseshell Domestic Shorthair who has a serious attitude about morality, kindness, charity, and proper behavior. He is often found napping in the church library or offices and has a very good knowledge of what documents are kept in both.
