History
The original settlement where Loyalton now resides was set up as a base camp by miners working in the Rudlan Mountains. As miners began to get wealthy on the rich ore they were finding, entrepreneurs started to set up shops to sell their goods and services closer than other settlements. The settlement was named Alloytown as ore refining concerns and blacksmiths began to thrive. Alloytown had no formal laws or security forces, and it was beholden to no kingdom for decades.
As Alloytown grew, they began to draw attention from the elves of the Red River Forest, the orcs of the Ghorbash tribes, and business interests from the city of Velsia. Orc raids on the settlement began to increase, and while the inhabitants were able to build some defenses, it was only a matter of time before they would be overrun by the orcish hordes. A deal was struck by the Alloytown leadership and envoys from the Boedillian Empire, where the town would incorporate into the empire in exchange for military aid and masons to build better northern defenses.
This incorporation was not popular with many of Alloytown's more disreputable residents who were worried their business in the town would be scrutinized and criminalized under imperial law. Once the new stone defenses were in place, and a standing regiment of soldiers were stationed in the town, an underground resistance, calling themselves the Drumwells, committed a mass uprising, fighting and killing all the imperial forces stationed in Allowtown. Town leaders were powerless to stop the rebels as they tore down and burned Boedillian flags and banners in the center of town.
The Drumwell's occupation of Alloytown was short lived, however, as imperial soldiers marched on the settlement less than two weeks later, slaughtering any Drumwell who resisted, and imprisoned any who surrendered until the ringleaders could be found and executed. Tensions were high in the town after that, as many families were split between rebels and loyalists. The military presence increased as curfews were enforced and searches were conducted. The town leadership voted to change the name of their town to Loyalton as a gesture of fealty to the crown.
