Shadows of Deya Plot in Covenant | World Anvil

Shadows of Deya

This is the story of Aliena's time on Covenant occupied Arilia. A stranger in a strange land, she discovers lost secrets of her people long buried on this alien world. Secrets powerful enemies would do anything to see remain so.

Aliena came to Arilia as part of a cultural exchange between the Arilians and the Deyan people, as allowed by the Covenant. She was openly interested in the planet's culture, but secretly wanted to free the people from their overlords. She was placed with George and Zella Chadwick, university professors, and let lose to explore Terminal City. Her father, Guerdon Mags, assigned the her hapless cousin Dorelan Mags to keep an eye on her, obstensibly at the Deyan Embassy to the Covenant.   While at the Canopy Cotillion ball, Aliena was approached by 'Felicity' who made a number of allegations of the Deyan people (see CD7). She was later summoned by her cousin who told her they were being forced to leave Arilia and go home. Aliena talked him into backing down a bit. She called her father, Dorelan Mags who seemed to know nothing of it.   Later, Shadowpack made accusations that the Deyans have sinister plans to invade. After capturing a Gremlin, Feliciity attacked Aliena, stealing her light and invading her mind.   During the trial in the Soulforge a dark alternate Aliena was infused with dark power and tried to burn the Dissidents while insisting that Aliena was keeping secrets.   While in Siren's trials, Dorelan left a number of messages for Aliena over the course of a few hours (CD#12). They increased in frenzy until Dorelan straight out told her to not use her alien communicator, not go home to her host family, and stay away from the embassy.   As other matters came to light, Aliena found herself unable to stay away and went to visit the Embassy (CD#13. There she found Dorelan murdered, and her own light the apparent weapon.   While fleeing from the Terminal City Security Forces, Maggie called her father (CD#14. He revealed that there was a faction within the Deyans known as the Suneaters, who were responsible for the genocide of multiple peoples in their quest for genetic purity. Aliena apparently had impure blood, passed down from her Mother, and that was why they were on Arilia. Aliena hung up on him out of anger.
