Continent of Arros

The continent of Arros is one of the largest landmass in Hysal. It is also one of the most diverse, both in terms of climates, biomes, fauna and flora, but also in terms of cultures and ethnicities.

Geography

The continent's geography is diverse, but it can roughly be divided into three large regions: The north, also called Rumalia; The south-west, which is the region most outsiders think of when they refer to Arros; and finaly, the third region is called The Arrosian Far east, or simply The Far East.   The North: This region includes all of the land north of the Dorroman mountains, which reffers mainly to Rumalia, but also the frigid lands further north and the Dragon's head peninsula to the east. It also includes the island of Haiska, across the sea. The Narga river system that flows through the Taiga here dominates the interior, while the Dragon mountains in the north and the Vekhonian mountains to the west impose themselves along the coasts. While the population here isn't as low as one might think, even the largest cities here can't compare to the ones in the south. Most of the lands of Rumalia are covered in taiga, and experiances harsh, snowy winters. The lands further north are devoid of trees, animals and people as is the Island of Haiska, as temperatures there are too cold.   The South-West: The second region is the largest of the three and its called the south-west. It includes everything south of the Dorroman mountains and west of the Alvars mountains and the Lapisian sea. This region is characterised by a large amount of flat land and rolling hills, cut through by large rivers. Most of this region, particulary west of the roynian plains, was once covered in forests, but the expansion of humans into the land around the start of the Second Age, lead most of them to be cut down. Some remain, particulary in Paxolia and Gysia, while the rest was turned into farms and pastures. The climate here is generaly mild, with the southern most regions being pretty hot during summers and warm in winter. The northern regions are warm in the summers and cool in the winter. Most of the region recieves a far amount of rain, though some, like the Kavasian Grasslands, do not, and remain relatively dry for most of the year.   The Far-East: The third and final region is the far east. This region includes everything east of the Alvars mountains and the Lapisian sea. Most of the land is still covered in thick forests as humans and mages arrived here last from the west. It is generaly much colder and rainier than the south west region, yet also has milder temperatures overall than both it and the North. Many river flows through the hilly region, fed by melt water and the abundant rain. To the rest of the continent and the world, this region is the most mysterious. Not only because of its distance, but also because of the people living here. A significant portion of them aren't humans, but mages and they make up majorities in many settlements, something you rarely ever see eslsewere in Hysal.
