The Fork

Located at the far-eastern end of the Arrosian continent, The Fork is a rocky, rainy and isolated peninsula in the form of a 3 pronged fork, hence its name.

Geography

The Fork is a windswept, rocky and rainy peninsula jutting out into the Great Eastern Ocean, separating the Balrem Sea from the sea of Galvar. The land splits into 3 so-called points, each with their own name. Starting from the north, Erris point is the smallest of the three forks. It is relatively flat, forested and very lightly populated. Across the deep waters of the Erris Bay, the Aolen point is the longest and most exentric, having both low-lands and high hills as well as a chaotic coastline. It is named from the town of Aolen is located along the northern coast of the peninsula. Finaly, to the south, across the Misty sea, is the Flint Spear, which is a long, narrow and mountainious piece of land. It is very windy here, more so than elsewere. Most people on the flint spear live in the city of Tregar, which is the largest city on the Fork. The waters along the north side of the peninsula are dotted with a huge number of rocky and forested islands, with the largest one of them being the island of Geillion, while the one furtest away from the continent's mainland is the island of Ibsor. Ibsor is also the easternmost piece of land that has ever been discovered.

Ecosystem Cycles

Unlike many other regions of the continent, the Fork does not have a wet and dry season, as cloudy, rainy and even stormy conditions exist throughout most of the year.

Climate

The local climate of the region is rainy and windy. Much like most of the nearby Balrem sea shores, cloud and rain are omnipresent throughout the year, and storms from the Great Eastern Ocean batters the high cliffs of the fork, bringing storms and strong wind and thunder. Proximity to the ocean means that temps in the region never reach the extremes of the interior. Summers are warm, while winters are a bit cooler. Thunderstorms are more common during the summer, but can occur all throughout the year.

Natural Resources

A large amount of timber can be found on most of the Fork. Similarly, many iron, and more crucialy tin mines, can be found in the region, especialy east of the three points. The largest deposits of Lycanite crystals of the continent can be found on the Flint Spear, while the waters around the peninsula have large fish stocks, which feed the local population.

History

Early History

Most scholars agree that the region was first inhabited by native arrosian, who migrated from the east during The Long Winter. Here, they settled into small villages along the fork, and petty states and kingdoms may have formed. However, early Naurcian accounts only describe loose bands of barbarians coming from the fork sacking the northern countryside.

Second Age

Later during the Second Age, Rumalian raiders reached the region, and even reached as far south as the Lapisian sea and the Vechor Islands. The Fork itself was the site of major colonies, such as Tregar and Geilvar. However, starting around 800 bc, the Rumalians lost inflence in the region wained and from 600 to 200 bc, most of the region was unified under one banner, the Kingdom of Kaeldrian. This kingdom was able to go toe to toe with the Kingdom of Naurcia for a while, but ultimatly, it was brought down by a civil war, and Naurcia took advantage of the situation to expand in the region.

Late Second Age and Third Age

From around 200 bc to now, the region has remained divided. A midly sucessful revolt in the region around the year 300 Bc almost kicked out the Naurcians for good, but it was beaten back, Since then, the Kingdom of Naurcia has asserted their dominance again. And so, to this day, the so-called Kaeldrian kingdoms, remain divided and weak.
