Moran Mountains

The Moran Mountains are one of the two ranges of mountains that run across Tarusia from north east to south west. In the east they mark the boundary between the area settled by the Mor (represented in this area by the Kingdom of Mor ) and the Torren (represented in this area by Torrak and Torroth. The higher parts of the range are still home to some of the Taru and, according to some, older and stranger inhabitants of the land.

Geography

The Moran Mouintains are a belt of mountains one to two daywalks wide (though taking rather longer to cross that this measurement would imply) with ranges of foothills on either side. The higher parts of the mountains remain snow capped all year but lower down they form fertile seasonal meadows and the passes remain few of snow and ice for most of the year. The prevalent weather patterns see most of the rain fall on the southern side of the range, though out or a quirk of the geology1 much of this emerges on the northern side of the range and feeds the great river system of the River Durran.

Natural Resources

The southern flanks of the Moran Mountains are thickly forested and timber has been a much exploited resource sins the Morivian settlement of Tarusia began with what is now the city state of Orris . Though this has resulted in significant inroads into the forest cover extensive forests still remain in the southern part of the Little Kingdoms and significant pockets exist further east, such as that in the hinterlands behind Marivian Newport and Harhead.
The mountains themselves are rich in the ores of various metals though the deposits of these are generally small and seemingly at random. Nevertheless attempts at mining usually strike some sort of ore - the only question is of whether it is worth exploiting. The foothills also see strata of Firestone breaking the surface which are now starting to be significantly exploited by The Moran Duchy.

1 The quirk
The quirk of the geology is actually the tunnels driven through the mountains by the Monkin-doo to bring water and power to their mines deep in the mountains.
