Rendite Pest Control

Monster Prevention

Aw, headin out on another mission, are we? Got our big stompin' boots on? All armored up for those big scary Rendites?? Don't worry, if you get too scared out there you can always call the true Legion in and we'll come rescue you.

Not all Rendlings are created equal; while all types form when Ichor gets on and both mutates and corrupts living creatures, the base creature is what most often dictates the size and danger level of the resulting monster.   When Ichor gets on things one might commonly consider pests, like insects and rodents, the immediate danger level is low. Rather than sending in combat ready soldiers to handle them, the Legion sends in lower level operatives known as Rendite Pest Control.

Basics of Pest Control

While Rendites are still technically Rendlings, they are generally much smaller, and much safer to engage. The equipment needed to handle full sized Rendlings will include thick body armor, tactical gear, and automatic weapons, the stuff needed for Rendites generally includes easy to spray poison, thick clothes, and large armored boots.

Crush the Outbreak

Pest Control usually works in teams of 4, depending on the size of the outbreak. Two will go out ahead with poison sprayers to control the outbreak and corral the Rendites into a confined area, and the other two will use their large armored boots to crush the rest.

The thick clothing that Pest Control wears is generally enough to protect them from bites as well, should the Rendites attempt to do anything drastic like attacking ankles.
Oh-hoh, look at this! No longer a bug squasher, now you get to play with the poison sprayer! Much safer to use one of those, wouldn't want you to hurt yourself trying out a real gun like the rest of us use.

Rendites

Generally, when a base creature that's the size of a rat or smaller gets exposed to Ichor and mutates into a Rendling, they are classified as Rendites. These smaller creatures are much easier to manage than the larger, more violent Rendlings. Rendites, despite undergoing the same mutation, are often small enough that a single blow or dose of poison is enough to terminate them.   Rendites appear as mutated forms of rats, mice, and all other rodents, and most often as forms of various insects that might have been crawling along the ground before the Ichor spilled.
Eugh. These have to be my least favourite Rendites to deal with -- the worms. Where in the name of He'an does all of this liquid in em even come from? I hate the way they squish!

Rendite Contagion

Despite the often times vicious mockery that Pest Control recieves from higher-up members of the Legion, their work is incredibly important, and without them, the Rendling problem would become far worse. Rendites, particularly ones that have a base faunal form of a blood sucking or biting insect, have a parastic ability to latch onto other animals and force a mutation upon that animal as well.   If a Rendite outbreak goes uncontained, there is an extremely high liklihood of those Rendites spreading into the surrounding area, turning any animals found into larger monsters that will definitely cause a problem.
Yeah yeah, I get it, laugh all you want. We're out there in thick clothes doing the real preventative work, while you bastards in the fancy armor and high powered weapons get all the prestige.

Thank you, Amélie! This one was really fun to write -- any excuse to write about Rendlings, even the little ones, is a fun time :D   Protect the ankles!!

Interesting stuff. Are Rendite Pest Control agents just lower legion soldiers? Or what determines who gets assigned what? Have all soldiers at one point been on pest control duty or alternatively, only certain people go through that?   I really like the trippy snail image as well as the importance of keeping the pests controlled to prevent a worse outbreak from happening!

It's sort of a different "department" within the Legion, but with the possibility of cross promotion or changing jobs. Not all regular Legion soldiers start out in Pest Control, but some might!   Thank you! :)

“- Private Hudson: Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bug hunt?

  • Lieutenant Gorman: All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony and that a xenomorph may be involved.
  • Private Frost: Excuse me, sir, a... a what?
  • Lieutenant Gorman: A xenomorph.
  • Corporal Hicks: It's a bug hunt.” (Quote Aliens 1986)
  • Nice article, poor guys!

Oh oh oh oh yuck no. That worm sounds awful. I appreciate these people, killing the things that have all that squishysess to them. Great article :)

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.

Monster exterminators! Well done. I really like the quotes In particular here. They really show what it's like. This is not a job I'd want for sure, but someone's gotta do it.
