The Shattered Isles are an island nation located upon a large archipelago to the south west of Hansun. These islands are home to Cathedris's greatest diversity of flora, fauna, and environments -- with mountainous, volcanic, and even dry desert covered islands. However, what the islands are most famous for is it's incredibly high concentration of Rendlings. The God-husk Dimiti resides on the Shattered Isles's northernmost island, Bellrose island -- and it's here where the world witnesses a near constant stream of new Rendlings forming from the liquid spilled from the God-husk's back.   The Legion has chosen to set up their main base of operation as close to the Shattered Isles as possible, locating nearby in the nation of Hansun. The multi-national military force has also created multiple satellite bases, training centers, outposts, and other smaller military bases all throughout the Shattered Isles. These smaller locations are often place within or near to various Shattered Isles cities and villages, and are kept well stocked, well armed, and fully employed with soldiers.

Fauna, Flora, and monsters, of land, sea, and air

The islands that make up this nation are home to thousands of unique species of plants and animals, with the highest number of distinct species of either fish or birds found anywhere in Cathedris. The area contains a similarly diverse selection of flora, with some species of trees being so seclusive they can only be found on a single island among the many. However as Cathedris industrializes itself, many of these species are rapidly dying out -- 12 different species of plants and 3 species of trees have already been wiped out as the Shattered Isles clears space for Legion headquarters and training grounds.   The Legion professes that these areas are highly important to their cause, as the space is needed to properly train the growing regiment of Legion soldiers on how to combat the similarly growing horde of Rendlings. The Isles see a strong concentration of both Deific and Faunal Rendlings, all stemming from Bellrose Island upon which Dimiti resides. The highly diverse fauna of the Shattered Isles combined with the abundance of Ichor from Dimiti make for a dangerous combination, spawning a near endlessly diverse assortment of terrifying nightmare beasts.

Scraps from The Comprilith

  • The "Infested Decade" was a period of highly increased Rendling activity. Records from the era indicate the cause was Dimiti changing position far more often, causing far more splashing from the pool on his back, as the parasitic being on his back was causing trouble above.

    Presence of the legion

The Legion was first established over 3,000 years ago, shortly after the conclusion of The Seven Day War -- when all the gods had died, and much of humanity had perished as well. The god-husks now walked the planet, and humans had to scramble to rebuild what they could, as monstrous remains began to crawl out from within the dark -- so they created the Legion, a multinational army made of the best fighters every country had to offer. They trained together under the best leaders the world could spare, rapidly learning ways they could hold off any and all forms of Rendling attacks.   The Legion has offices, bases, and headquarters across the entire planet, but roughly 50% of all of its operation is based within Hansun and the Shattered Isles. Hansun is where the main headquarters are, but the Isles are where the majority of its forces are. There is no single settlement within the Shattered Isles that does not have an accompanying Legion Base to go with it. Much of the deforestation of the Isles is done in part for building materials for bases, and space for Legionnaires to run drills and train.

Many Islanders have a growing resentment to the Legion, as they watch the destruction of the diverse flora and fauna their home has to offer. The tensions are further strained, as logistics of keeping everyone fed are pushed to their limits due to the high population of soldiers upon the island eating most of the food. The chain of Legion command dismisses the complaints and criticisms for the most part, focusing instead on the low number of Deaths-by-Rendlings the country experiences and counting that as a net gain.

It's not right. This is our home, not theirs.

They cut down our trees, they eat our food, and now they've quarantined an entire section of the town. The bad has turned rotten, and I'm tired of it.

This sounds like a great setting to overthrow the Legion, and very believable!

This is such a fantastic way of writing the flora and fauna prompt - so detailed and believable! It sounds like the perfect place for a training facility.

Thanks Brinsmead! Yeah, when there's an infinite amount of horrible monsters coming towards civilization, every day can be a training day :D

This is a really interesting setting. I'm sad the the Legion is destroying the biodiversity in the area, though, and it's understandable that the island folk are mad about it.

Thanks Emy! Thankfully, even with the destruction done by the Legion's operations, the Shattered Isles still remain the most biodiverse area in Cathedris. If the can convince the Legion to reform, or push them out, much of the endangered species will likely be able to be saved!

Thank you Dimi! :D   I honestly wasn't sure... I struggled to think of the name of the people that live in the Shattered Isles. Shattered Islers? Shattererians? I settled on Islanders, but I might change that still. I suppose "Shattered Isles" could be the name the outside world uses for the country, but they've got their own name -- similar to Korea or Japan in real life. Then I could give the people a better title than "Islanders"   Thanks for the comment and question! :)

It is the same with Greece the actual name is Hellas, and a person from Greece is called Ellinas Greece/Greek comes from the word Grekos which means subservient from the 400 years of Ottoman occupation of the reason.   Ellas/Ellada/Ellinas comes from the ancient Greek El + Las which stands for Light + Land (land of light)   It is a very interesting distinction.   Generally speaking, if the name is not official, like in your case, due to a kingdom or other authority people wil call themselves based on something they are proud of, and others will call them based on a common understanding and/or misconception.

Greek history is something I've actually not learned that much about! That is fascinating, I never knew that -- thank you for sharing! I'll certainly be taking this information into consideration when I for sure update and expand this article after summer camp :)   And, yeah, I'm working on it! xD Managed to spare about 15 minutes yesterday for CSS and made some links white, but I don't think I like how that looks so I need to search for a better colour. SOON ALL SHALL BE READABLE! :D

The amount of power they have, and the way they use it, is pretty sketchy for sure >:(
