Greater Demon of Hopelessness, Betrayal, and Vanity
Sabazios is the Greater Demon of Hopelessness, Betrayal, and Vanity. The stories claim that she was once the wife of a great wizard, who married her because of her stunning beauty. Despite their difference in age, she fell deeply in love with his wit and charm. After marriage though, he turned out to be a horrible man, who would beat and abuse her frequently. He kept her locked away so noone else could see her beauty, and she grew increasingly resentful. He would even use her for magical experiments, from which she sometimes needed months to recover. As he grew older, he had her trained in medicine, and some medicinal magics, to help keep him alive. She secretly learned a ritual to pray to Aloth, and when she did he answered her call, giving her a mirror which could paralyze any person who looked deeply into it. One day she tricked her husband to look deeply into it and, once he was paralyzed, locked him in a room himself. There is one aspect to this mirror that was special though, people could still feel pain, even though they could not move. She tortured him for 100 days, wanting to make him feel as hopeless and betrayed as she had felt all these years. As his hopelessness grew, so did her power, and by the time the two emerged from that room, she had grown into a greater demon of Aloth himself, and proceeded to build a keep near what is today the town of Carphenion.
During the first age, she would rule over swathes of territory in which she revelled in hopeless toil. She would work people to the bone in the mines, have them healed, only to have them thrown back into the mines to break their backs again. It wasn't the pain she revelled in, it was knowing that she had broken their souls. It was she that stabbed Brigit of Carphenion for rousing a rebellion against her, after which Brigit was raised to Sainthood by Godric. She was slain by St. Alesia shortly after, returning to the Immortal Plane.
