Apethantix

Lesser Daemon of Undeath, loneliness, and Grief

Apethantix is the Lesser Daemon of Undeath, loneliness, and Grief; and it is from her that the unholy magics of necromancy originate. It is because of her influence that even holy resurrection magics are fraught with danger, as any attempt to bring a soul back to the mortal plane has a chance to be intercepted by the Daemon of Undeath. She has been known to revel particularly in possessing the bodies of people being resurrected in temples, only to begin speaking in tongues and attempting to kill their own loved ones with glowing red eyes and long claws where once there were fingers.   Apethantix was once a young mortal girl named Apethantia, who lived in Calradia in the region currently in the vicinity of Amitatys. At that time in the first age, the swamps of the region were a prime breeding ground for disease, and a favorite playground of Lom'Ozoth. Apethantia's entire village was wiped out by a new disease spread by infected mice, but she was miraculously immune. Whereas this would have been seen as a miracle in today's age, and the clerics would no doubt have taken her in, in the First Age she was instead now alone and abandoned in a great swamp. She cried over the bodies of her kin for many days and nights, before she was approached by a large man who strode into town, carrying a brass bell on a tall staff. She asked the man to help her bring back her parents. He offered to help bring back all of her loved ones, if she agreed to be his assistant, and she accepted.   Apethantix still travels wherever she goes with her "alive" parents and loved ones chained together, with magical chains that are said to be unbreakable. She now serves Thestronak, and is the patron Daemon of all necromancers. She also works to corrupt those who are grieving, and who have through the lost of a loved one also lost their meaning in life.
