    The First Age
    Era beginning/end

The continent of Calradia is, and always has been, a land of turmoil. The first age, the age of myths, has by the current day long come and gone. The first age was a time of monsters, of dark beings in all corners of the world. The realms were governed only by the constant wars, whims, and machinations of the Demon princes of the Dark City of Nagarond. They raised populations of beings of all races to suit their needs, to worship them and follow their every command. Countless beings were born, fought, and died for the interests of evil beings beyond their control. As described in the writings of Saint Alesia, "In the grim darkness of the ancient past, there was only war".

    Raising of Nazzareth
    Founding

Nazzareth, the holy city of light, is raised to dispell the darkness from Calradia by Godric.   At the top of Mt. Aethelstan, Godric smote the Daemon Prince Aloth upon the mountainside, who had been weakened by the treachery of one of Aloth's former thralls turned paladin of Godric, Aethelstan.   The walls of Nazzareth rose 60 ft. around the entirety of the mountain, and their light cast a dispelling magic across the land in all directions. It is said that objects left to bask in the light of Nazzareth would gain cleansing capabilities. It is to here that the good people of this world fled to, and it is from here that the darkness would be pushed back from.

    The Second Age
    Era beginning/end

The Second Age, the Age of the Holy Ascension (also known as the age of reconquest, or the age of the crusades), was precipitated by the intervention of the Father of the Saints of Order, Godric "The Father of the gods of Light". Supported by three of his angels, and a human who was once a champion of the Daemon Princes, Godric defeated the Daemon Prince Aloth who ruled the dark City of Naggarond. As Godric smote Aloth, Naggarond was driven deep down into the earth as an iron nail is driven deep into wood. He closed the earth over the evil place, raising a high mountain in its place, and in one movement of his hand formed the Holiest City of Nazzareth from the mountain itself. From the very stone of the Mountain, a light shone across the land which cleansed the people of the taint of the Daemon princes, and they came to live in the holy city. In exchange for being faithful to the gods of life, even in service to the Daemon princes, the human champion Sigvard, was gifted a holy sword by Godric and made king of the holy city of Nazzareth in the year 1186. From here, Sigvard and his descendants waged holy wars against the forces of the Daemon princes in Calradia, eventually officially forming the Calradian empire in the year dubbed 0 C.E (Calradian Empire).

    Conquest of Illyria
    Military: Battle

Illyria (previously known as "The Dark Shard")was the last hold-out of the Daemon Princes on Calradia, and it's conquering by the forces of light marked the end of the age of reconquest.   The siege was long, lasting 3 standard years. vast numbers of soldiers were lost on both sides, especially by the sorcerers and wizards of the last dark city.   To this day, the city is home to the largest concentration of magically inclined individuals.

    The Third Age
    Era beginning/end

The Third Age began as the Calradian empire spread to every corner of the continent, The Calradian empire spanned North to the Dark Sea, East to the World's Edge Mountains, South to the edge of the never-ending sands, and West to the Great Leviathan's Ocean. It was during this time that the peace was upheld in the empire for the longest time. Monsters were hunted to near extinction, demonic presence was excorcised from the lands, and peace reigned across the empire. However, over time differing regions of the lands became unique, they adapted to the lands they inhabited, and began worshipping different gods. Despite their differences, the holy light of the sword Durendal in the hands of the heirs of Sigvald held the empire together in unity for centuries.

    The Swadians Land
    Population Migration / Travel

The Swadians, Elves from a land beyond the Leviathan's ocean invaded the Western coast of Calradia. Few understand why they came, and even fewer know of the land from whence they came. only the Swadians themselves can tell stories of the lands beyond the sea.   They landed in the Western Lands of the Calradic Empire, and originally survived by working as mercenaries for the empire. They were paid handsomely to control, and eventually play a role in governing the lands of the west, as this freed up imperial resources for elsewhere. They swore an oath to come to the empire's aid in times of crisis in exchange for these privileges though.

    Disaster / Destruction

The Light of Mt. Aetherlstan dims, inviting the encroaching darkness.   It remains a mystery what caused the light to fade, and why it happened when it did.   The ancient city remains the largest on the continent, but no longer does it's walls shine a purifying light on the lands around it.

    The Fourth Age
    Era beginning/end

For reasons as yet unknown, the light of the city of Nazzareth dimmed in the year 1872, and almost immediately discord descended upon the empire. The Divine Right to Rule of the line of Sigvald ( now known as the Line of God-Kings), was in question. The North was invaded and conquered by the heathen raiders known as the "Vaegirs". The Westfold was conquered by the Swadians, a people who came from across the Leviathan's sea, and who partnered with the local elves to build an independent feudal monarchy with an aristocratic elvish class and a peasant Human class. The Sand Peoples of the Aserai asserted their independance from the empire, as a self-sufficient trading entity. The Island of Illyria cast out it's imperial overlords, asserting their independance throught heir uncanny magical powers and power over the tides and winds. Finally, the Kingdom of Battania proclaimed their allegiance to the "old gods", and refused the orders of their imperial governors, ambushing the imperial garrisons within their borders. In the wake of this, a crisis of identity descended on the remaining imperial lands, as the emperor Aristarcos died under suspicious circumstances. Though De Jure the same empire, the lands have fractured de facto into three kingdoms: the West, East, and Southern Calradian empires. They fight incessantly to regain the past glory of the empire, but in doing so weaken themselves. The scholars have dubbed this, the fourth age, the age of strife. Intermittent wars are fought between the powers of the day. Whispers grow about monsters stealing livestock, people in the cities going mysteriously missing, and dark rituals being performed by cults just beyond where the light of the cities shine.

    The War of Battanian Independance
    Military: War

Upon the fading of the light of the Holy City of Nazzareth, the last faith that the peoples of Battania had in the empire faded with it. The Peoples of Battania has always had an affinity for the unorthodox saints of "the old gods", and even some worshipping suspected fey spirits.   The war was short. An imperial army attempted to march into the woodlands to quell the rebellion, but not one of them was heard from again after the battle of Pendraic. The archers and falxmen of the Battanians became feared combatants against any imperial forces that encroached on the forests. quickly the lands were deemed "unconquerable", and not worth the resources to reclaim.   Border skirmishes continue between the Battanians, Imperials, Swadian, and Vaegirs. However, none have come close to successfully invading the ancient woodlands, aside from some small raids/ambushes.

Invasion of the Vageirs of the North
    Military: War

The Vaegirs are Northmen from islands and frozen lands North of the continent of Calradia. For centuries they lived in poverty and warfare between each other for the scant resources of the northlands. When the light of Nazzareth faded, and rumours of the weakening of the empire spread North, things changed.   A warlord among them, Halfdan Karloving, united the tribes into a single raiding fleet, and sailed for Calradia. quickly the raid became an invasion, and in the confusion of the fading light, the governors and commanders of the Northern Imperial lands fled South (more interested in retaining their family holdings in the main empire than protecting a frozen wasteland).

    The Swadians Declare Independance
    Military: War

During the Calradic Empire's conflict with the Battanians and Vaegirs, Swadia was called upon to honor their oath and aide the Empire. However, the Swadian barons were unwilling to fight and resisted this call to arms. The Emperor called out the Swadians for their cowardice and betrayal, angering the barons and causing them to declare independance themselves.   The war was quick and brutal. the elves subjegated the human, dwarvish, and gnomish populations of the Western continent. This was not, despite conceptions from the imperial capital, a resisted subjugation. The Swadians promised peace, protection, and prosperity, in exchange for serfdom, and this was provided. While the other peoples of the continent suffered bandits, raiders, turmoil, and creeping monsters, the people of the west were protected by a skilled warrior caste to protect them. The peasants' lives are hard and full of toil, but their work arms the greatest soldiers on the continent, and so far has protected them from the evils of the darkness.
