Festumar

Lesser Daemon of the Unholy Feast

Festumar is the lesser Daemon of the Unholy Feast. Little is known in any texts about Festumar's origins, and fewer still have any interest in knowing.    However, some folk tales in the Northern lands tell of a young boy whose parents were killed by Ice Trolls while he was away foraging. This boy lived far from any town or other people, and so he had nowhere to go. Thus, the boy, filled with rage, challenged a lone Ice Troll named Tor'garild to single combat. The boy used his speed and cunning to dodge every one of the troll's swings, and eventually lured the beast to the edge of a cliff. The boy then took aim at the creature's ankle, and with a shot from his warbow gifted to him by his Father, he felled the troll over the cliff.    The boy had no food, and so ate of the flesh of the troll for days, slowly going insane from the fermented mosses from the back of the troll. Eventually, the troll's clan came looking, and found the boy feasting on their companion. In an odd turn of events, the trolls took the boy in, following their weird cultural belief that if one kills a troll of higher standing, that they can usurp their holdings and honor.    The boy, Festumar, would go on to teach the trolls how to hunt humans. Not just isolated ones, but towns and villages too. Noone knows why he betrayed his own kind, but soon ice trolls began to raid the lands of the North in force, no longer having to fight with each other over scant hunting grounds. The story goes that the ice trolls were eventually defeated, but that Festumar still roams the world, revelling in the consumption of civilized people.    What scholarship exists on this daemonic being points to odd events where people and animals will suddenly become overwhelmed with the need to consume their brethren, in a phenomenon known as "The Unholy Feast". It is also claimed that Festumar will intervene to lend power large beasts like Giants, Trolls, and even sometimes Hobgoblins, but simultaneously infect them with an insatiable bloodlust.
