The Nightlands

The Nightlands is an occult-themed tabletop role-playing game that curses anyone who plays it to degenerate into violence, cannibalism, and insanity.
In January of 1999, while investigating a string of unexplained cannibalistic killings, Detective Lee Mercer of the NYPD discovered that each killer had previously played a pre-released copy of The Nightlands. Mercer's investigative consultant, Morgan Freeman Brown, played The Nightlands and fell under its curse. Hoping to spare others from this fate, Brown tried and failed to destroy the copies of The Nightlands stored in Masters Warehouse.
New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani had by this point also acquired, played, and fallen victim to the curse of The Nightlands. Following Brown's motive and example, he secretly hired Beverly Beverly, August Laine, and Joe Iverson to destroy Masters Warehouse and everything inside. They succeeded, leaving Rudy's as the only extant copy of the game.
