August Laine

August Laine

August Laine was a freelance hacker and former Investigator.   In January of 1999, August and occult specialist Morgan Freeman Brown visited Masters Warehouse to investigate The Nightlands, a cursed tabletop role-playing game being stored there prior to its release. Later that month, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani secretly hired August, anti-occultist Beverly Beverly, and private detective Joe Iverson to destroy Masters Warehouse and all the games inside. They succeeded in this task, thereby saving humanity from The Nightlands' curse.   On Tuesday, February 2nd, August was in Boston attending a hacker conference. He and fellow hacker Mark Renning met for dinner at the World of Meat restaurant in town. There, they encountered a drug-addled Nathanthew Smith-Worthson, who claimed to have been sent to August by a ghost (Levi Archdarchbarch). Counter to Archdarchbarch's intentions, August, Mark, Nathanthew, and World of Meat owner Alexander Ivanov soon found themselves under attack by the sorceress Sara Fitzgerald and what August identified as a golem that had been previously released from its magical imprisonment. August and Alex managed to mortally wound Sara, but then elected to save her life by applying first aid. Sara finally killed August, which she would not have been able to do had he not shown her mercy.   August's Player was Ben.
