Vast Dunefield
Extending from the edge of the Catseye to the scarred landscape of the Scorch, the Vast Dunefield encompasses arid sands and lost structures. Harsh desert winds and savage wildlife spell doom for most who dare wander too far into its wastes. Few civilizations still muster an existence where tiny oasis sprout, but these locals are easy prey for the desperate creatures that rove thirstily.
After recent events, the Scorch to the west has encompassed most of this area. Locals now commonly refer to it as the "Scorched Sea" and avoid it altogether.
Geography
The various dunes of this deserts namesake consist of coarser sand toward the badlands and a much finer, less compacted sand creeping towards the Catseye. A number of ruined trading posts, starved settlements, and forgotten civilizations dot the landscape partially exhumed by stinging winds. Elven archaeologists scrounging for secrets often become interred with their studies.
Fauna & Flora
Gnomish caravans often report the odd sights and sounds of the 'Dune Sea'. Once a common trading partner, the Cannibals frequent gnomish encampments much less after a number of unsavory incidents. Other monstrous species of ants and jackals are sometime seen scavenging the sands in packs. Ghosts and phantoms haunt in camps of passerby leading them to their long ruined cities.
Since the spread of the Scorch, demonic monstrosities stalk in singeing clouds of large 'scorchstorms' brutalizing and consuming those caught in their midst. Yuan-Ti have become a much more common sight as well. Caravans avoid the area entirely now, sticking to the coast lest be barraged by searing sands and demonic fiends.
Natural Resources
Often a popular spot for adventuring parties, the Vast Dunefield host a number of ruins resplendent in treasure. The hides of the creatures guarding it often make great trophies if not farmed for poisons. The coarser sands found on the outskirts of the feature are the base component for most glass created within the world today.
