Örkrazic Elves

The örkrazic elves1 are one of the main branches of Austral Elves in Borgalor, whose communities are the oldest elven ones outside their native continent of Jælondis. Most of these have long since been all but entirely assimilated into the native orcish societies, with the ones in the federal republic of Agg-Ahlún in western Örkraz being the only ones to form a significant minority that has managed to retain some of their culture, and as such are the main focus of this article.

Culture

Apparel

Örkrazic elven clothing is generally lighter and baggier than that of the Jútrilían Elves in Jælondis due to the hot, humid climate in most of Örkraz, with shorts or wraparound loincloths being popular among men and a kind of blouse and skirts among women. Among those in Agg-Ahlún, footwear is highly decorated and rarely worn outside festivals, and tattoos similar to those displayed by native Aggans and Ahlúnans are not uncommon.
Jewelry is traditionally made of carved shells, hardwood and semi-precious stones rather than metals.

Cuisine

Most signature dishes of aggahlúnic elven diet represent their traditional occupations as barley- and cattle farmers, with heavy emphasis on beef, dairy, pasta and ale with additional native ingredients such as tree fern starch, coconuts, sugar and various spices. Stews and soups are common, while barley bread has all but disappeared in favour of pasta and dumplings, except for bread bowls and certain pastries.

Religion

Of the three main branches of mainstream jútrilían elven religion, namely arctolatry, dendrolatry and pyrolatry, only dendrolatry remains widely practiced among aggahlúnic elves, though in syncretic form. Certain native trees, particularly palm trees are worshipped, with groves and sanctuaries being guarded by warrior monks much like back in Jælondis, though their weapons and arms are made of red Hlölkite ore rather more traditional Ilríþjúron. In the case of monks associated with palm trees, they subsist almost entirely what the trees provide along with bowls of tree fern paste given by guests in exchange for blessings.
Another notable difference is the greater emphasis on ancestor worship, a central feature in many orcish religions but a minor aspect of most elven ones. Rather than directly communicating with the dead via Necromancy, örkrazic elves merely pray to their ancestors for strength, though the exact rituals vary between communities.
