March 2023 - Masterful in Blue´s Worlds | World Anvil

March 2023 - Masterful

Warten Sie, ich muss nur kurz ... switch my keyboard to English. Better now?
Oh man, what a masterful world building month it was - many unofficial challenges from the community, the first convention and the WorldAnvil awards provided plenty of adrenaline, dopamine and moments of happiness. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees as well as thanks to the many incredibly great blacksmith masters!

My recap of the month

I have entered the list of unofficial challenges that Catoblepon has created with many others in the community. For now, though, I've decided to use the list(s) throughout the year. Also Stormbrill's challenge call was extremely tempting to win his architecture badge. In addition, Jester had a musical and lyrical invitation to offer. Thank you for the many inspirations. But finally and first I had to write my introduction to Elaqitan.

Part I and II about the world and the story:

Sorry the articles of Elaqitan are still written in German, but I want to translate them later. Promised!

Additionally, I wanted to bring my new worlds of Naharin and this one to life. With a bit of CSS shenanigans (my new favorite English word) I adapted both the Stranger Worlds and The Great Gamemaster themes for me to create Blue's Worlds and Naharin. At the beginning of March I made Blue's worlds and at the end of the month Naharin public. Thanks to my first followers.

Certainly not all days are over yet, but for the beginning I'm satisfied. Of course, I would now have to give Elaqitan a CSS makeover as well. Maybe there's time for that next month. At least I learned a lot again and used the Codex article about containers and CSS almost every day.

Unofficial Challenge Participation:

On the last day I decided to take part in the Stormbrill's Challenge. Here is my entry:

My favorite articles from the community:

Darkseid has published a very readable article about the most evil dragons imaginable here. Interestingly, dragons in the world of Dvergar have a similar bad influence on their environment as humans on Earth, only here it has a name.

Trakhaney - The Winged Beasts of Nightmares
Species | Mar 3, 2023

The Greatest of all Beasts. In the Shadow of their Wings, all Life will Wither.

If you are interested in calendars, then I strongly recommend that you read the two articles by Jandis. Two sophisticated calendar systems with runes were designed here that couldn't be more different. Both systems are explained in detail and the meanings of the individual runes are described. For me, both calendars are very inspiring and I will probably consult them often for my own.

Faranian Calender
Technology / Science | Apr 19, 2024

A lunar calender said to date back before the time of the palanastra, the Faranian dating system is one of the most ancient calenders still known to be in use.

In celebration of Worldbuilding Mastery Month, here are two articles to pin to your reading list, each written by an award winner.

On the one hand there is Spectra's article with an interactive world building periodic table, which helps me and maybe you too to keep track and inspires new ideas. Additionally, she has included a prompt generator in case you and I run out of things to write about. Great!

Second, I recommend Annie Stein's article on (Grandmaster) containers for improving layouts that should also look great on mobile. In addition to a little theory, Annie uses many examples to explain how you can significantly improve the alignment of the content. I have to try it out in April. Thank you very much!

Highlights

The highlights were of course the first World Building Convention and the subsequent award ceremony for the best worlds, articles, maps etc. in mid-March.

Worldbuilding-Convention
During the convention there were interesting lectures and conversations, some of which made me reconsider my world construction. On average, around 1,000 blacksmiths took part. My favorites were Starting Points, Magic Systems, End Worldbuilding, Maps, and the Heroine's Journey. Many thanks to Janet and the team at WorldAnvil for the preparation. What was your favourite one?

World-Anvil-Awards
A total of 50 articles and 25 worlds were nominated by the jury. It would have been interesting if the judges had said how many worlds and articles were submitted. But in the end there was still a lot of reading material left for us. Somehow I managed to at least look at everything, because unfortunately I didn't have the time to really read everything. But I got a lot of ideas and it was great to see the winners in real life.

Special thanks to Annie Stein for linking a table with all the nominees. In some categories I had a really hard time making a decision. I think the rest of the community felt the same way. I hope those who didn't win an award aren't too disappointed. Certainly the nomination is already a success, since it was made by experienced authors, designers, etc. Your time will come, because your work was great too - be proud of it!

I appreciate hearing how your march has been, it sounds like it's been a good month for you! It's really nice of you to take the time to highlight some other creations too. That's one thing I really appreciate about this community, how many take the time to raise others alongside them.   I'm also so glad to hear you found the nominées list helpful, and I hope the containers guide will prove equally helpful!

Thank you so much, for commenting on my article. Yes, the community is great and so I can give back a little more "love" than with likes and comments.
