Whilst working at the Wiverhead stables, Balfor meets Grognak and Cora for the first time at the anual Dragon Fall Fair.
The yearly Dragon Fall Fair takes place in Wiverhead. A selection of games and activities is put on for the attending public to enjoy.
The yearly Dragon Fall Fair culminates in the ceremonial Jousting Tournament to comemorate St Austeads victory over the last dragon. This years tournament was disbanded after Cora tried to assassinate the Duke who was attending.
Cora Lunasong dies in Wiverhead during the Jousting at the annual Dragon Fall Fair when she tries to assassinate the Duke. She fails in her attempt, resulting in her having her head chopped off by the Black Knight.
Whilst searching the ancient tunnels beneath the ruined tower in Wiverhead, Balfor meets Qildor for the first time. The two of them don't get off to the best of starts, as both are distrustful of one another.
At a tense stand off between the Duke of Miston on one side, flanked by all of his guards and the Black Knight, who is holding both Grognak and the Boss as prisoners - and Balfor and Quildor on the opposite side, our protagonists are forced into action. Quildor fires off an arrow at the Duke, wounding him and revealing that he was in fact a Doppelganger who was posing as the Duke all along. A battle follows and the Doppelganger is killed.
Whilst fleeing Wiverhead and traveling the road towards St Austead, Balfor, Grognak & Qildor make camp on the roadside. Here their path crossed with a group of soldiers transporting a prisoner to the capital. They try to rob Balfor, before he engages them in combat - eventually defeating them. Investigating the prisoner, they find a young gnome called Zook Fizzingbuns who is far from home. He agrees to join their party and travel to St Austead with them, as he isn't exactly sure where he is.
The party, travelling by cart toward St Austead, suddenly comes to a stop as Grognak falls to the ground, shivering. A concerned Qildor takes a look at him and finds that he has an infected wound by his ribs where he was stabbed by the Black Knight, with black veins spreading across his torso. Qildor suggests that they hurry towards the capital as he knows someone there that may be able to help.
Having arrived in St Austead, Qildor takes Grognak to his healer contact, whilst sending Balfor & Zook to buy some supplies. They meet back up in the Cloak & Dagger tavern in town, where they find Grognak being treated by a cleric called Joy.
Balfor learns that Qildor & Joy are members of a secretive faction called the Children of Gaia, a group dedicated to the presevation and protection of nature and life. Joy, seeing that Balfor is a Druid, asks if he would like to join them, to which he agrees - gaining a magical cloak of many fashions as a welcome gift.
Zook heads off on his own to investigate a suspicious man, who may have some sort of conection to the mysterious deaths of several children and infants with magical backgrounds in the city. Finally spotting the man in question, he follows him back to a warehouse, where he observes him hand over a large sack to a strange hooded man. Keen to kearn more, Zook breaks into the warehouse and hides, watching as the hooded man removes his hood to reveal himself to be a Drow elf. He sees him examine the contents of the sack, which looks to be filled with body parts. Zook also notices that the man wears a necklace with a black hand symbol around his neck. Returning to the group to tell of what he saw, Joy reveals that the symbol corresponds to a faction called the Festus Brethren - a mysterious group rumoured to use necrotic magic.
Balfor heads out on his own to investigate the Royal Palace to see whether he can find a way to gain entry in order to talk to King Alexander IV in person. Whilst reconning the palace, he sits in the church opposite the main gates watching to see who comes and goes. He ends up talking to the priest, who talks about being a member of the Blessed Guardians - a major faction in the world that runs the churches throughout the Known Realms.
The cathedral bells of St Austead ring out in the morning, calling people to gather at the city square. Balfor & Qildor decide to investigate to see what is going on. Upon arrival they find that the members of the city council have gathered, surrounded by guards. The Archbishop John Paul addresses the crowd, announcing that magic is to banned throughout the Kingdom of Veritria, as ordered by the King himself - King Alexander IV. Only those in possession of a proper permit are allowed to wield magic of any kind. To further the point, two wizards are brought out before the crowd and tied to pyres, before they are set alight - setting an example to the people that this ban is serious.
Confussed and angered at the events in the city square, the party decide that it is too risky to try and sneak into the Royal Palace to talk to the King, instead choosing to flee the city. Four out of the five members of the party all use magic, and none of them have a permit. Despite agreeing that they should leave, they disagree on where they should go. They eventually decide to go with Grognak's plan and head north, towards the Kingdom of Vorstland to try and raise an army to combat what is happening here.
Having been teetotal for over a year, Balfor relapses and has his first alcoholic drink following the stressful events of the past few days. He ends up getting totally drunk, starting a massive brwal in the local tavern and fighting Grognak.
Balfor seems to have a vivid dream about Celestina. It's only when he wakes and describes his dream to Joy, that she confirms that the description of her matches exactly that of the Goddess of the Hunt. Perhaps this is a sign, or just the strange halusinations from a drunken dwarf - but Balfor does seem to feel somewhat different inside.
Whilst on the road toward Vorstland, the party decide to stop in a Wiverhead. Balfor is keen to see his old Boss who is worried about him. He confirms that the magic ban is in effect in Wiverhead, with soldiers putting up posters in town. Balfor asks Boss to help him build an army. He requests that Boss spread the word amongst people he trusts and form a resistance in the town. Boss agrees to help if he can. Balfor also commisions the aid of the local Blacksmith to start creating as many weapons and armour as he can, in preperation for the force he is trying to build.
On there way towards Vorstland, the party decide to visit the town of Oakedge. This was the town that Grognak & Cora saw be burnt to the ground by the Duke and his men almost a month ago. Interested, they decide to investigate to see if they can figure out why a kingdom would burn one of its own towns to the ground. Whilst there, they discovered a young girl called Alina who was surviving on her own after her family was killed during the destruction of the town. The party decided to take her along with them, not wanting to leave her behind.
Whilst investigating the ruins of Oakedge, Zook finds a necklace hung on a wall inside one of the burned down houses of the town, sensing that it feels magical. He decides to try to attune to it, putting it on whilst he rests. He figures out that this necklace is a powerful item that enhances a persons luck - however it is also cursed. Too late to remove the curse, as the night turns darker, Zook transforms into a Warewolf and runs off into the dark forest.
The party trail Zook into the forest, leading to an abandoned mine. There they find Zook, unconcious but fine, in one of the small caves inside. Investigating the mine further, they discover that a Drow member of the Festus Brethren is inside, working on a dead body for some unknown reason. The party decide to act by blowing up the mine enterence after finding explosives inside.
Whilst visiting Myrrdin on the way north, Balfor met with his old friend and mentor Leshanna, one of the tribe elders. He also bumped into Zoria, the leader of the Children of Gaia and Letani, one of her lieutenants.
Travelling by boat, Balfor, Zook, Leshanna and Letani travelled to an island in the middle of Celestina bay, seeking out to talk to Petrichor, the leader of Myrrdin to talk to him and seek his help to lift the curse on Zook.
Having talked to Petrichor and successfully completing his challenge, he transported Balfor to some kind of dream world where he got to speak to all of the Gods. There, Celestina herself explained that they needed Balfor's help as the world was in danger. A mysterious force was trying to free the Dragon gods of old, who had been banished by the current gods. Were they to be freed, the world and everything in it would be in danger.
Having travelled back to Myrrdin after talking to Petrichor, Balfor, Zook and the party fround the camp deserted. Upon investigating further, they found scores of undead abominations roaming around, as well as a Drow elf that seemed to be controlling them. After defeating them and learning that the Drow seemed to be connected somewhat to the Festus Bretheren, they found a number of the Druid tribe hung and killed. Amongst them was Joy, the Children of Gaia healer that had been travelling with them.
Following the horrors that happened in Myrrdin, Leshanna, the newly announced leader of the Druid tribe decided to rejoin with the Children of Gaia. No longer would they be able to sit by idly - they would fight if needed and promised that if Balfor needed them, they would be there to help in the coming war.
After seeing the devestation of Myrrdin and the death of his longtime friend Joy Saffron Qildor decided to leave the party and travel back to the Children of Gaia headquarters to spread news of what had happened.
Travelling by boat, the party paddle North-West accross Celestina Bay toward the One Eyed Clans of the frozen North. They arrive in Blod after a grueling 5 days travel.
Party meet and talk to Ulf Helvig, leader of the Blod clan. In a meeting, Balfor insults Ulf, causing him to attack and strangle him. Zook tries to retaliate with a Fire Bolt, but misses. Ulf likes Zook's bravery and calms down enough to talk to them. He promises to help party, but only if the party can help the Blod clan first.
Ulf introduces the party to Olga, a mother whos children have gone missing from Blod clan. She has no idea where they have gone, but desperately asks them to help her find them. The party agree and ask for some of their belongings so that the sled dogs can help find their scent whilst searching.
A young wizard named Amala introduces herself to the party. She is recovering from a broken leg and requests help from them. She is searching for a legendary creature, called a Chiwinga, and asks the party to keep an eye out for one - ideally bringing it back for her to research. Also, her companion Naveen, who traveled ahead of her, has not reported back yet and she is beginning to get worried. The party agree to help her.
On their travels north, the sled dogs pick up the scent of the lost children. This leads them to a cave where they battle a fierce Frost Giant. They successfully slay the giant, cutting off his head as a trophy and freeing the two children that were being held captive.
The party reunite the missing children with their mother in Blod. They also show the Giant's head to Ulf, the clan leader, who is overjoyed that they have helped the clan in such a glorious way. In celebration the clan hold a feast in their honour.
It takes the party a week to travel north through the bitterly cold snow and tundra until they finally reach Alder.
