Duke of Miston
HRH the 24th Duke of Miston, Edward Francis Cavendish
His Royal Highness, Edward Francis Cavendish, the 24th Duke of Miston, presides over the city of Miston and also helps rule over the southern portion of the Kingdom of Veritria.
Known as a merciful, honourable and just man, the Duke is a popular person within Veritria amongst the population. He helps rule the Kingdom alongside King Alexander IV, maintaining order and relations with the other kingdoms of the known realms. Due to the Kings prolonged absence after the death of his wife five years ago, he has taken on a much greater responsibility with the running of the kingdom.
He resides in Miston Castle, though he also has a residence in St Austead in the Lords District for when he is conducting business in that part of the country.
Dark Blight
Qildor had been sent out by the Children Of Gaia to investigate mysterious events that had been happening across the land - rumours that the long peaceful Kingdom of Veritria had been sending troops and raiding parties out, across their borders to attack settlements, seemed to make no sense. Along his travels his path had crossed that of Grognak Odinson and Cora Lunasong who had been travelling together, they themselves seeking answers for crimes that had been committed against their people, a description that seemed to match what Qildor had heard. Teaming up, they followed the whispers from locals between towns who spoke of attacks breaking out. They followed the trail to the site of a village called Oakedge, of which was in the midst of being attacked. From a nearby hilltop vantage they watched as they saw Veritrian troops, led by the Duke himself, cut down and murder the entire population of the village, burning it to the ground. What made it even stranger was the fact that this particular village was already under Veritrian rule within its borders. Why would a kingdom burn one of its own settlements to the ground, let alone being led by a Duke, famous for being merciful. In Wiverhead, Cora confronted the Duke and tried to assassinate him during the jousting competition of the Dragon Fall Fair. Unfortunately she failed and was subsequently killed on the spot, by orders of the Duke himself, for her attempt on his life. Later on, Balfor had been tasked with finding Cora’s accomplices and bringing them in front of the Duke to face punishment, or they were going to kill Balfor’s Boss who worked in the town stables. The Duke had no intension of allowing Balfor to go, ordering his men to kill them all. Qildor, firing an arrow from atop the ruined tower, hit the Duke in the shoulder causing him to let out a huge scream... a loud, shrieking scream that didn’t sound like it should come from a man. Everybody turned to look at the Duke as he slowly transformed into something otherworldly. His skin cracked and peeled, turning black as the night sky, wet with the rain. His eyes turned bright yellow, scowling back at everyone as they looked in horror at the creature before them. The party eventually killed the creature, it stumbling and falling to the bottom of the town well. After investigating the corpse, Qildor identified it as a Doppelganger, a monstrosity that can shapeshift and take the form of other humanoids. Realising that this creature must have been posing as the Duke for a significant amount of time, it raised the question of what happened to the real Duke of Miston.
