Immol
Immol is a small town — a Freistadte — near the south-western edge of Barovia, dominating the region known as Waxmelt. Immol, and the surrounding region, have rich volcanic soil, allowing bountiful vineyards to thrive there. The most notable of said vineyards is the Martikov Winery. As its most successful businessman, the town is nominally led by Isnaf Davian Martikov.
The town of Immol was one of the original recipients of the four Golden Gourds.
Name Origins
The name Immol stems from a minunderstanding of a Limba "blessing" given to the early Barovian settlers, said by fleeing Zori natives. The original "blessing" (in truth, a curse) has been lost, but what is known is that the settlers mistranslated imola to mean "to burn brightly" rather than "to burn in sacrifice."
History
In recent days, the town of Immol has been attacked on multiple occasions by "antlered-Elves", which appear to be targetting wineries looking for something. It is believed they found what they were looking for in the Martikov Winery. The Heroes have deduced that these Elves are actually wearing antler-shaped branches taken from the Gulthias Tree on Yester Hill.
Points of interest
Immol is home to several points of interest:
- Both-Ends, a tavern that serves as the local meeting point for most politics in town, run by Pyotr Teodorus.
- The Martikov Winery, the largest vineyard in the town (and the wider County), owned and operated by Isnaf Davian Martikov. The Winery has recently been sacked by the Cult of the Endless Eclipse.
- The Temple of the Thresher, a granary-temple dedicated to "Tresher," an archaic aspect of Reaper & Sower. It is overseen by Xelludja Ssur-Melilla.
- The Vozynyk Waxworks, a large workshop where the local apiaries have their wax turned into candles, run by Mariya Vozynyk. The Waxworks also serves as the headquarters for the Organisation for the Betterment of Barovian Chandlers'.
- The Oronovich Apiary, a large apiary run by Turol Oronovich, whose house serves as the meeting place of the Immol Apiarists' Association.
- The Taltos Winery, owned (though rarely operated) by Ruxandra Taltos, head of the Vintners' Guild of Immol.
- And the Vintners' Guildhall, where the Vintners' Guild of Immol is headquartered, which is typically staffed by Ruxandra Taltos and her scribes.
