Asurman (Az-oor-man)
Asurman
As the most powerful god of the White Pantheon, Asurman is the founder and father deity of the pantheon. The majority of the gods within the pantheon are his children, and each one controls the domains he has allocated to them. While many of his children are known to roam the Mortal Realm, he is said to never leave his home in the realm of Aaru.
Asurman and his children have the greatest concentration of their followers on the continent of Iyos.
Origin
Asurman's origin, as taught by the Church of Light, tells of how Asurman and his brother, Maugan-Ra, were born at the beginning of time. As twin deities, representing light and dark, creation and destruction respectively, they forged the world of Azure from the chaos of primal existence, and brought life to the world. These two brother deities forged the world, the heavens, the beasts and the races to occupy it. They sought to make a world of peace and harmony to rule over. The brothers poured an equal amount of their essence into what would become the spirit, or soul, which resides in all humanoid creatures. With equal parts light and dark within them, it was up to the individual to follow the respective teachings of the two gods to forge themselves as a being of light or darkness. Asurman chose to give the people freewill, and taught them the ways of peace, believing that the best way to determine if an individual was worthy of a place in the afterlife filled with light and eternal happiness was to give them the choice to be a person who would not fall to temptation and darkness. Should a soul have failed to live a life worthy of paradise, they would fall into Maugan-Ra's realm. However, over time the people came to love and revere Asurman, while they shunned and feared Maugan-Ra. This angered the god of darkness, and so he decided to purge the world of those who shunned him, and that he would rule through fear. This caused conflict between the brothers, and a great war was waged between the two brothers. Asurman prevailed over his brother, banishing him and sealing him for eternity within the plane of darkness, more commonly known as the Underworld.Religion
Within the White Pantheon, Asurman is the most popular of all the gods, and has many temples built to worship him. The Church of Light is one of the most dominant religions on the continent of Iyos, and primarily worship Asurman within their teachings. The Church of the Twelve, worship his children as the Guardian Deities of the Realm. While followers of the Church of Twelve acknowledge Asurman as the prime deity of the white pantheon, they primarily worship his children due to the higher level of influence his children have over their lives. For example, farmers worship Gias and pray for good harvests, while hunters would worship Callen. Followers of the twelve tend to be people of the lower class.Aaru
Aaru is the heaven of light, ruled over by Asurman himself as he shepards his faithful to eternal happiness should they live up to his teachings and those of his children. It is from these teachings that most people choose how to live good wholesome lives for the betterment of their fellows, in the hope that they can one day live in eternal comfort in the warm light of Aaru.Divine Domains
