Bahhraym Species in Ayonerra | World Anvil

Bahhraym

Bahhrayms were created by Dekabura to protect Hskaner from Med'Hea, Menes'has and Amaars. They forged weapons from Hska armours, which reflected lights from stars, enabling bahhraym women to use different coloured Gveleshapi magic. For centuries they fought fiercely against Menes’has, until the last of Hskaner were seemingly extinguished. After their defeat, the vast majority of Bahhrayms remained in Amaarion.
Following the Rain of Amaars / Deaf Fall, many Bahhrayms fled to the Northern continent Hayanao and settled in the Nine Skies.

Magic

All Bahhrayms are capable of levitation, additional height and speed requiring more energy and physical strength.
Some bahhraym women are born with a specific birthmark between the clavicles. They have remarkable magical potential and with enough training can become exceptional blacksmiths and warriors. These women are known as Tsukaites
(Tonemaqi in Amaarion).

Tsukaites are able to telekinetically move only the weapons they forge themselves during a starry night on Hayanao's highest peak, while Tonemaqi craft them atop the Last Hand. The weight and number of weapons depend on individual’s magical capabilities, e.g., Empress Keiko uses two massive swords which many can’t even lift, let alone use effectively. Unlike Dunyars, Bahhrayms can’t directly connect to Gveleshapni and are able to use their magic only if the star’s light gets reflected on the weapon. Thus, Bahhrayms are the strongest during the night, when the weakened Sun doesn’t obstruct other, more powerful stars.

Only Tsukaites can wield weapons forged from Hska armours. Once, every woman Bahhraym was a Tonemaq, but after their failure to protect Hskaner, Dekabura punished them by limiting the numbers.

Facial characteristics

For most of their lives, Bahhrayms maintain a middle-aged appearance (approximately 45–50 years old by Dunyar standards). The gap between their eyelids is relatively small, and the top one is hooded. Straight or mild aquiline noses are the most common types.

Origin/Ancestry
Created by Dekabura
Lifespan
200 years. Tsukaites/Tonemaqi - 350+ years
Average Height
Both men and women - 1.65 to 1.70 metres
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Bahhrayms have light complexion. The iris is whiter than sclera, making black pupils more pronounced in contrast. Their hair is also white. It should be noted that these characteristics are not due to a lack of pigment, white is a pigment in and of itself.
