The Pirates of Ilhon

Overview

The Isles of Ilhon are a wild frontier of new opportunities... and piracy. The Isles are typically ruled by whomever holds the largest settlement, Sa'anlos. Many Pirate Captains roam the waters between the many islands, making unprepared travel a very dangerous task.

Pirate Queen Adi Baris

The Pirate Queen (or King, or simply 'The Monarch' if the ruler doesn't prescribe to either) is the de facto ruler of the Isles of Ilhon and the peoples within. The current leader is Pirate Queen Adi Baris. Having being in power for the best part of a decade, Baris has presided over a rule of respect and prosperity for the citizens of Sa'anlos. She is well respected amongst the people and has garnered a large set of loyal Captains who sail in allegiance with her. A Sea Elf in her mid 40s, with blue skin and sea green hair, she is a distinctive figure even without the title.
Lon Mulgore
A human man in his late 40s, Captain Mulgore is one of three Captains regarded as being within Baris's inner circle. Born and raised in Oakharbour, Mulgore left that life behind on the cusp of adulthood. Nearly thirty years later, he's one of the most respected Captains in the region. His ship, The Black Oak, is a nod to his origins. His strengths lie in strategy and is known to hold exacting standards upon his ship.
Mardu
The most flamboyant of Captains loyal to the Pirate Queen, Mardu is a Nixaran whose silver tongue is his greatest strength. An outcast in his youth due to his infernal blood, Mardu sought out a new life across the ocean. There, he embraced his heritage, and his ship, The Infernal Serpent, reflects that. He is now one of the three in Baris's inner circle.
Gaulane Unathanaki
Gaulane is the most local of the loyalists. Raised on the island of Sayacalco, a location considered the Altaran homeland, Gaulane eventually made her way into the life of piracy instead. Standing over 7ft tall, Captain Unathanaki is an imposing figure, settling scores often before words need to be shared with her mere presence. She honours her spirit name of 'Dawnrider' with her ship, Dawn's Fury. Her outward toughness helps hide a keen and wise mind beneath. She is the third of the three in Baris's inner circle.
Dewin Copperstone
When Baris hold court with a wider net, there are five other Captains that are typically included in such discussions. Captain Copperstone is one of those. The Dwarf is actually the oldest, at 85 - a testament to the volatile and dangerous lifestyle. What Copperstone may lack in outright strategic brilliance or charisma compared to others, he makes up in sheer stubbornness and resilience. Copper's Pride is his ship.
Jane Hale
Captain of The Scarlet Wonder, Captain Hale is part of a duo with Captain Meer. Her ship's name is due her striking red hair. A gifted ranged specialist, with her signature Frostfire Crossbow, she leaves the 'up close and personal' to other members of her loyal crew. Both Captain Hale and Meer's crews have never changed in their few years, for any reason, a rarity amongst the pirate world.
John Meer
Captain Meer's ship The Brinewatch was a salvage job. Whilst it's named after Brinewatch, the Aldenian town, he has no apparent connection to it. No one truly knows where he and his red-haired compatriot came from, but what they do know is that they'd fight to the death for each other. Such loyalty has seen them overcome many obstacle and rise to the position of respect they know hold amongst the community.
Calrin Ohnaka
A formidable fight and leader, the half-orc Captain Ohnaka rose through the ranks quite quickly in Sa'anlos. She now captains The Squallrider. She is regarded as a tough but fair leader and is a sought out choice for new blood seeking to join the crew of one of these respected Captains.
Lycoris Vainor
Captain Vainor leaned hard into the symology of lightning, with bolts adorning her frock coat, and as her symbol on her sails. Her ship, The Storm Cry is quick and agile. The half-elf holds no elemental magic, the association comes from her ability to make quick strikes on her opponents.

Antagonistic Captains

Whilst Adi Baris holds much respect and a squad of loyalists, there are many Captains the roam the waters amongst the Isles that covet the throne. Whether they have an issue with Baris's leadership or for their own ego, all of the below have designs to take control of the Isles. They are listed in order of the value of the bounty on their heads set by Baris.
Vorak 'Steelfist'
A former high ranking officer of the South Balhos navy, Vorak was forced out when he lost his hand in a battle. He channeled the fury into a new venture in the Isles and is now the most feared independent Captain on the seas, having brought his tactical nous and The Dreadmaw with him. His replacement hand has naturally earned him the nickname of 'Steelfist', but it also a valid description of his command.   Bounty: 20,000g (alive). 10,000 (dead).
Zethras Korr
The Minotaur is a beast on the waves, both literally and metaphorically. His ship, The Crimson Horn, evokes the image his own, often bloodied, horns. As furious as he was before Vorak's arrival, that has only increased since being usurped as 'most feared'.   Bounty: 15,000g (alive). 7,500 (dead).
Vespera Drakov
No one is quite sure what Vespera grudge against Adi Baris is, but it is well known that she hates the Pirate Queen that could only be attributed to a personal reason. Far from home, hailing from one of the non-purely Dwarven settlements of Gonde, she rides The Abyssal Reaver with a terrifying fury. Unlike Vorak and Zethras, she is a dangerous magic practitioner.   Bounty: 12,000g (alive). 6,000 (dead).
Empyr
A Wynaran, Empyr is a master at controlling the winds, allowing him great finesse in naval combat and speed in reaching far flung shores. His ship, The Tempest, can sail through its namesake without issue thanks to its Captain.   Bounty: 10,000g (alive). 5,000 (dead).
Shalhara Mizuchi
As a Nathadeni, Captain Mizuchi is already a rarity in the world, let alone the seas. She uses opponents ignorance of her kind to her advantage. That is if they even see her coming in the first place. Shalhara is a master manipulator, but utilises stealth and subtlety too. She has named her ship Serpent's Kiss as nod to her snake-like heritage.   Bounty: 10,000g (alive). 5,000 (dead).
Altor Fenris
Captain of the The Black Omen is known to dabble in dark artifacts and forbidden magics. The Nixaran's crew is almost cult-like in its operation.   Bounty: 8,000g (alive). 4,000 (dead).
Horvus Greth
The Half-Orc is Captain of The Wailing Brine has a penchant for poison, often infiltrating his targets food stores and water supplies to take them down from within. The Wailing Brine is said to sail in a cloud of toxic mist that he and his crew are immune to.   Bounty: 8,000g (alive). 4,000 (dead).
Sabel Therris
Captain Terris replicates her natural Feldeni dexterity in her light, nimble vessel's ambush attacks. The Pouncing Wave hits hard and fast, leaving its target crippled in a flash.   Bounty: 7,000 (alive). 3,500 (dead).
Serise Athrathi
An Undelf, Captain Athrathi typically strikes under the cover of darkness. Operating when most don't, The Shadowpetal is used frequently in night raids - a reminder you are never safe once on the water, no matter the time of day. Whilst antagonist to Adi Baris, and one of the more influential individuals that covets of the throne, Captain Athrathi has a curious tendency to target slave traders, turning the tables and making captors the captives instead.   Bounty: 6,000 (alive). 3,000 (dead).
Silar Noctis
An Avedeni on the ocean is a rare sight. A Manath Avedeni, even more so. Captain Noctis utiliises his kind's knack for mimicry to his advantage, and trains his crew in espionage. The Echo's Song is rarely seen in combat itself, with Captain Noctis and his crew favouring infiltration and sabotage of the enemy instead.   Bounty: 6,000 (alive). 3,000 (dead).
Branwa Grumashoni
Captain Grumashoni and The Stonebreaker, in stark contrast to Noctis, are a practitioner of brute force. Her heavily armoured ship is designed to smash her opponents to smithereens. The Altaran might be regarded on the lower end of the notable antagonist forces, but it makes her no less dangerous.   Bounty: 5,000 (alive). 2,500 (dead).
Garron Volek
A former crewmate of Zethras Korr, the human captain of The Bloodtide has tried to continue the practice of the vicious raids of the Captain who trained him.   Bounty: 5,000 (alive). 2,500 (dead).
