Adi Baris
Pirate Queen Adi Baris
Overview
Adi Baris currently presides over one of, if not the most stable periods the so-called 'Pirate Nation' has ever seen. Since rising to power 9 years ago - already a long reign by their standards - the Pirate Queen has tamed the worst excesses of the capital of Sa'anlos and a modicum of order restored to the region through her logical and careful stewardship.
Appearance
Adi is a Sea Elf, with paleish blue skin and turquoise hair, which is usually styled in ringlets. She wears a moderate amount of jewellery, at least by pirate standards, including multiple ear rings, and a couple of regular rings upon her fingers. She commonly wears a navy blue frock coat with gold trim. Most notable, though, is her mechanical parrot companion, Mal, which is often perched on her shoulder.
Early Years
From a young age, her logical and technological mind set Adi apart from her Sea Elf society. Eventually, she ran away to pursue those interests elsewhere, landing in Sayacalco on Cosania. The Altarans there hold a similar reverence to nature and its offerings like her Sea Elf family did, but crucially allowed her to create. It was on Cosania, she would befried Nalvea Kulumatho, an Altaran with a similarly practical & creative mindset. Kulumatho would later become Baris's First Mate.
Piracy
Whilst her inventions were partially adopted by the locals, in order to fully explore and fund her bigger ideas, Adi turned to the wild frontier of the Isles of Ilhon. Sailing off on the ship The Unbound, built by Nalvea, the first couple of years were difficult due to a distinct lack of reputation. However, with loyal friends as crew, and over time, the ability to incorporate her inventions into her ships offensive and defensive capabilities, that reputation grew. The Unbound became renowned for having the most potent ballistae weaponry around, along with an uncanny ability to mitigate spellcraft used against it.
Long Live the Queen
The previous ruler, Vyron Milar was deposed by Baris a swift and ruthless attack. Baris isn't known for mercilessness but Milar gave her no chance. Milar was a competent and dangerous fighter in his prime but upon assuming command, quickly found out he wasn't cut out for that position. He became lazy, but when faced with Baris's coup, the old instincts returned and he fought to the death, more out of pride than anything.
