Corva-Kahdro

Among the rarest of the Avani Races (at least from the perspective of the main nations), the Corvadro inhabit the mysterious lands of Kahdro. No living bird on this side of the ocean has ever seen one. However, surviving records from the Cyanni golden age indicate they are rather large and imposing folk known for their long lives and strange magic. They may be distantly related to the Sialan or Cyanni.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The average life span is, like the rest of the avani species, much lower than actual biological limits due to infant mortality and frequent deaths from unnatural causes. However, it is still noticeably higher than other Avani races. There is likely a biological component involved.

Genetics and Reproduction

Many of the defining features of this race, for some odd reason, appear to vanish when combined with the traits of another race. Avani scientists (with only a limited understanding of how inheritance actually works) do not know why, but the effective result is that interracial mate-locking almost always leads to either hybrid children or purebred of the other race. In most mate-locks it results in an even split of children between the two races with the occasional hybrid.   (An outside observer could conclude that the traits making up the Corvadro race are likely recessive, while most other Avani racial traits are co-dominant. However, since the Avani have yet to discover genetics and don't know how to test for that, the true reason may never be known)

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Quite a bit of mysticism surrounds the Corvadro and their intelligence, making it difficult to separate fact from fantasy. However, they are stereotypically viewed as being smarter on average than the Avani of many other races. This leads into the belief that they are connected intricately with magic.

Magical Alignment

If the Olarus are associated with the domain of Order, the Corvadro even more so associated with chaos. Unlike the Olari, where the connection is mostly based on anecdotes, from a young age Corvadro have a very clear link: the Curse of Luck. This curse (named for how it works, not necessarily whether it's good or bad) is straightforward: when they are around, common outcomes become less common and vice-versa. This can be great for winning big at a gamble or surviving a risky situation, but not so much anytime you need a spell (or machine, or medicine, or etc.) to work.   How much the probabilities change depends on the individual. Some naturally exude a more powerful aura than others over a greater range, while for others it barely impacts their lived. Further, this natural chaos can sometimes be channeled to consciously impact the outcome of a fight or event, to the individual bird's benefit.
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Scientific Name
Avis Illustratum Corvala
Lifespan
54 cycles
Conservation Status
Little is known about their population before or after the golden age, but their race was in decline due to how the lineage interacted with Eastern lineages in mixed-race relationships. It is possible this trend continued and led to the Corvadro's extinction. Based on projections from recorded rates this could've happened only 30-50 cycles ago.
Average Height
5-8 spans
Average Weight
50-120 flaps
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Corvadro are usually colored in two ways: entirely black feathers (which is less common) and black feathers with a white stomach (which is more common)
