Avanima

Dangerous foes

  Avanima was once a place of peace and paradise, but not anymore. It is overrun with terrifying creatures like the immortal (but not unkillable) Apogees, nightmarish monsters of magic and matter forced to obey the whims of the magic that corrupted them. Many were once Avani, and some are helpful. However, most are enslaved to follow a path of destruction and carnage upon those who had once been their fellow citizens. They constantly attack cities and roam the wilderness for victims.  

Stubborn Survivors

  The Avani may be physically weak due to their birdlike biology, but they make themselves quite difficult to kill. Every part of their body is designed to help avoid or fight their foes. They can fly away from ground creatures, build weapons to defend themselves with, stage ambushes from the trees because of their perching feet, and of course think intelligently enough to tackle challenges. Nearly everyone has at least a decent amount of weapons training, especially those of the brave occupations that venture outside the city walls to farm, trade, and patrol for danger. Cities are constructed like fortresses and even villages are heavily protected.

History of Conflict

Though often united by their common enemies, the Avani have not lived in harmony, far from it. For centuries the world was divided into small kingdoms that waged constant wars over the precious few resources that they could wrest from the natural world. It was only the Treaty of Passaran that changed this cycle of violence, but it didn't solve the ingrained grudges that remained. Eventually this cumulated in the Cyanni War, a conflict that killed 16 million (nearly a quarter of the world's population). It spawned a number of smaller conflicts and completely reshaped the balance of power.  

A Second war?

  After the Cyanni war, the nation of Cyanni was left in ruins. Punishments and restrictions were put in place to ensure they could never rise to power again and threaten world domination. These restrictions have worked for over a hundred years. However, lately tensions have been rising to a breaking point. Allegations of treaty violations have been thrown at the Cyanni. With the new power of Jasani in the mix, a military superpower which has poor relations with the other Treaty nations, fears of an alliance between these two aggressors are high. It may only take the right spark for the world to begin marching towards a second Cyanni war.
