Apodine

Descended from fast-flying highlanders in the Far East, the Apodine are a race of small Avani with intense amounts of stamina and bodies streamlined for rapid flight. Apodines can reach speeds well over a hundred km/h in level flight and sustain these speeds for a significant amount of time. They are also well-known for having a large amount of energy between short bursts of meditative sleep.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Apodine bodies are heavily streamlined for flight, with significantly lighter bones than other races and swept wings. Their tail divides into two smaller sections to give them greater control over their rapid movements, while their wings are triangular shaped to give them faster flight. Internally, Apodine have more airsacs compared to other races and their cardiovascular/respiratory systems are extremely efficient. This has resulted in very high stamina. On top of high flying speeds, Apodine can sustain these high speeds for long amounts of time. However, these changes also mean they are physically fragile and particularly vulnerable to blunt force. On a side note, they also seem to have a vulnerability to disease, though it is unclear whether or not this is related to their modified organs.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Apodine were born in the highlands of the Far Eastern kingdoms, where some of the natural creatures the Apogee emulate evolved to become fast-moving fliers. Since their origin the Apodine have also spread to Oum Anima and Altowood. They are rarely seen in Alvana, though it is not uncommon to spot a few in the Jasani city of Constolba.
