The Sector Fleets are a significant unit of the Federation Interstellar Navy principly tasked with the protection and security of the Federal Transgalactic Highway, where they operate in tandem with the Federation Federal Highway Authority. They are distinct from System Fleets in this way, though both remain equal within the heirarchy of the Federation Navy.
Given the significance of the Transgalactic Highway, Sector Fleets are notably larger than the majority of System, Defence, or Exploratory Fleets, with each of the six fleets containing over 200 individual warships, and hundreds more support vessels.
