Grey Wolf

A symbol of power, a symbol of unity

A symbol of power, a symbol of unity. We may not often see the creature anymore, but its pack mentality rings true in our great Federation to this day.
- Unknown Federation Politician
The Grey Wolf, or just the Wolf, is a canine species that was brought to the Galaxy of Astraesto by the first colonists. Unlike its close relative the dog, the Wolf is not a domesticated animal in the Galaxy and was instead intended to prevent the overpopulation of other rapid breeding species.   Over the millennia since the Galaxy's colonisation, the wolf population has expanded greatly - although its numbers have always been kept in check by Human rangers and hunters. While incidents between the Wolf and Humans occur, they are rare, and the Wolf is often simply seen as an exotic creature, though dangerous if handled improperly.   The Grey Wolf is notable as the national animal of the Federation of Anfieden and Allied Planets, the Galactic Superpower of the modern age. The Wolf was chosen as this animal due to its natural pack-hunting mentality, a trait that the Federation - with all its many different sectors, intended to replicate. Many organisations within the Federation use the wolf as its symbol, notably including the Federation Federal Army, and numerous other units of the Federation Armed Forces. Many Planetary Republics also utilize symbols of wolves in their own organisations and flags, with the Grey Wolf coming to represent unity and cooperation throughout the entire galaxy.
