The Divinate

The Divinate was founded from the ashes of the Nevarine Empire when Lucia of Kyro, a local priestess of Gaea became the first Vox Prima and led a bloody revolt against the crippled and decaying Empire. Though Lucia became a martyr in the process, her successor as Vox Prima, Apellina, successfully founded the Divinate in 5 AA. In subsequent years the Divinate expanded to control the Nevarine peninsula and the eastern shore of the Bay of Domitia, and engaged in several ultimately fruitless wars with the Marches and the Free Cities over both religious and territorial concerns. The Divinate engaged in a number of wars of attrition with the Halfling populations of the north at this time, causing an exodus of Halflings to the east.
Conflict broke out once more in 310 AA when the Free City of Ventris fell to an offensive by Phoenix Lord Arianwyn of Lyalion. Faced with Elven expansion on their front door, the Accord of 311 paused the Iconomachy without resolution of the religious conflict and a Great War was declared against the Elven realms. United with Dwarf rebels from Khizan, Dark Elf expeditioners and the humans of the Divinate, Free Cities and Marches, the forces met at the Battle of the Gates of Fire. Despite sustaining horrifically high losses, the allied armies pushed back the Elves from the Gates of Fire. The allies were in no shape to weather another Elven attack until the Elven city of Cahadell was destroyed under unexplained circumstances. The Divinate claimed Gaea herself destroyed the city, which most scholars are skeptical of. After a month of stalemate, a status quo peace was decided, where the High Elves would keep to their side of the mountains and the other realms would keep to theirs. In the 80 years since the treaty, a continental cold war has consumed the Westerlands, with the Divinate and High Elves leading rival, embittered alliances.
