Welcome to
Ashes of Ambition, a fantasy role-playing game! Taking place in the world of Elysium, Ashes of Ambition is centered around characters fighting to swim against the current, as powerful forces pit them against each other and put the world on the brink of destruction.
The throughline of the game is
Ambition itself. Your characters are not chosen ones or destined champions, but folk from any walk of life who dream of greater things. They may be driven by any number of desires, from deeply personal to the earth-shattering, but stoking that flame of ambition is what drives them to push on and impose their will upon the world.
The gameplay in Ashes of Ambition follows three pillars of design:
hStruggleh
Few ambitions are easily fufilled, and characters may need to struggle against the very structures of the world if they hope to succeed. Violence will be inevitable at times, and the battles they fight could be as quick as an ambush or as long as a war's campaign, but prepare for them to be vicious all the same. At the same time, some battles are beyond violence, but could instead be won by words and mutual understanding. Characters will need to decide which method to apply to a particular struggle.
sIntrigues
To grow your character's strength enough to satisfy their ambitions, they will need to learn from those more experienced than them. Seeking out mentors and allying with factions will be key to gaining the training necessary to hone their skills for what lies ahead. This help will not be given freely, however, and your characters will need to use every ounce of intrigue and guile they can muster to gain the advantage.
dSacrificed
Yet no journey, no matter how grand or mundane, can be accomplished without sacrifice. Upon their path, characters will be forced to make difficult decisions for what they believe is a greater good. They might even have to cut away at the very core of their being in order to achieve their goals, as who your character is at the beginning and end of their journey could be entirely different. Will they look back with pride? Or weep in seeing what they have become, and the ashes of their ambition?
