The Court of the Moon Organization in Argentii | World Anvil

The Court of the Moon

The Court of the Moon is what remains of the United Royal Family of Argentii, the Council of Regents, and the courtiers and servants who stayed behind after the Division. We are dedicated to the preservation of the People of the Continent of Argentii, the cultures of Argentii, and the multi-faceted history of Argentii. In all things, first we ask, "How will this affect the community?"
— Shiv Moonsong

The Court of the Moon was formed when the original court split, and took up new capitals to the east and west of Division River. Those that were left -- or chose to stay -- behind dedicated themselves to ensuring that neither side lost sight of the peoples of Argentii. Shiv Moonsong's word carries much weight, simply by tradition of being the family's oldest living matriarch.

In addition, they are charged with keeping the greatest secret on all of Argentii: That the Iwhute are all incubators, and that the price for keeping the dragons away during the incubation is Guardianship, the charge of upkeeping the iwhute and ensuring the safety of the nests in the absence of the dragons. Not all members of the Court are Guardians, but all guardians are claimed by the Court. Even Ploui Jirs, Spu, while he lives.

Structure

Like many family structures, this is a geritocracy. That is, the oldest living member sets the standards for the family. In this case, that is Shiv Moonsong, with the second being Satyan Windblown.

Culture

Those born into the family, such as Vombro Shadowsong and Ereved, have no different status than those who have married into it, such as Daltheeb Moonstrike, or those who have adopted into it, such as Nanguu Hearthstone.

Public Agenda

The court's main goal is to make sure that every island has the ability to sustain itself through agriculture and fresh water. No people should be vulnerable to economic greed.

Assets

In a very real sense, Crossroads Island is a third country, part of neither the Eastern Union nor the Western Empire. It is the last remaining sliver of what came before the division.

Because of this, the Court is able to fund its work through Library Inn's revenue streams.

Strength & Honour Award 2024 Submission

Hi hi hi! I thought it would be fun to share some of the inspiration behind this article.

Inspiration

LARPing (live-action role playing) is an expensive hobby. Between costuming, travel, food, and game fees it can be hundreds of dollars per game per person. And if you're a family of four going to 3 different games every month? Bananas expensive!

So we decided that we would each create just one character that we would make different versions of for each LARP we went to. One set of costuming, makeup, weapons, etc. each, and then we're only paying game fees, etc. for each game.

In the process we came up with a backstory for our characters. They were members of the Court of the Moon, and it was their job to collect the stories from each of the worlds they visited. Their only criteria for being able to visit a world is that the world have a moon. This story had no bearing or effect on the LARPs we played, it was just fun and games for ourselves, a secret only we knew and that gave a lot of humor and spice to our in-character interactions.

As the years went on, I began to wonder what their actual home realm would look like...and that is how Argentii was born. So the Court of the Moon is literally the raison d'etre of my first -- and favorite -- World Anvil world.
