Eshonia (Eh-sho-knee-ah)

The capital of the Republic of Eshia. Eshonia was where the great story of the Republic, a country where everyone could live together had begun.

Demographics

Eshonia is made up of about 50% humans and 50% mixture of just about every race on Arethar. The city has pyramidal distribution of ages that has in recent years begun to fall apart. The Republic needs to find a way to increase the amount of children relatively soon.

Government

Eshonia is ruled directly by the council of Eshia. Decision and laws are voted on by the council every week.

Defences

Lacking a major wall, Eshonia relies on its distance to the coast and its powerful navy to keep it safe. An assault from Glassay bay would be virtually impossible. The long range weapons of its ships allow it aid the ground forces in the defense of the city. The air still represents a significant threat to the safety of the city. It rapidly attempting to gain new anti-air defenses.

Industry & Trade

Eshonia's chief export is the various meat and materials from the nearby bay. It has begun selling some of its smaller sailing vessels to other countries to help bolster its funds and bring in additional resources.

Infrastructure

Eshonia has a fully working sewer system. Multiple sea and land farms that provide food and workable leather. Watermills and windmills help move the grain and other resources where they need to go. All of Eshia's roads begin with Eshonia and spread out.

Districts

Eshonia has a diplomatic district at its very heart. The center of the city is the agora, a large building where the council conducts its business. Spreading out circularly from there are the various embassies that have made deals with the republic. Outside of their we have the mercantile district. This is where the majority of the businesses can be located. Nearly every kind of service available can be found in Eshonia. From Seamstresses to Apothecaries to sell swords and everything in between. Additional efforts are made to keep the mercantile and diplomatic districts spotless. Outside of the mercantile district you find the Residential district. Homes are arranged in neat rolls and grids bringing as much order as possible to the city. Every citizen lives in the residential district and most house are identical save for any additional decorations that home owner is able to provide. Once you leave the Residential district you are able to reach the docks where you will find the pride and joy of the Republic. The strongest navy in the entire world.

Assets

Eshonia has enough preserved food in its stores to survive for six months before it would need to start rationing. No one knows the full amount of money the Republic holds in its vault but its believed to exceed 100,000 million gold in total value.

Guilds and Factions

The Merchants guild is the major player in Eshonia. The Adventurer's guild is gaining traction as well. The Various of Church of the nine divine gods have managed to bring each other into balance.

History

The Republic of Eshonia began as a small settlement after the battle between heaven and the hells. The races that had grown tired of the constant death around them decided to ban together and forge a new country. A country where every single person could make a peaceful life for themselves. The city of Eshonia was found named after a paladin that had fallen protecting a number of small children from a collapsing mountain. The spot where the mountain fell into the sea became Glassay Bay(Or The loving Bay)

Points of interest

The Glassay bay represents the very first place anyone who visits the city travels to. At sunrise the Bay's water reflects the sunlight at just the right angle that it creates a stunning rainbow traveling far into the west. The Bay's waters also seem to be warm no matter what time of year it happens to be. A blessing from the late paladin looking down on her children's descendants.   The Agora is a massive marble building that stands as if reaching to the heavens. The agora can be seen as far away as 70 miles from the city proper and represents a beacon to anyone looking for freedom and the ability to be themselves.   The Eshonian market can be a wondrous experience for anyone who hadn't experienced it before. The merchants hawk the wares as people pass by each other in a chaotic dance of joyous laughter and hard fought negotiations. Many people find themselves unable or unwilling to leave the market once they have spent a day inside. The market place offers anyone the opportunity to build a fortune for themselves.

Tourism

Due to Eshonia's location and reputation its tourist tend to be people looking to make their fortune in the big city life. Anyone wanting to experience the comparably short lives and intense emotions of humans eventually find their way to Eshonia. Their constant arrivals has lead to the establishment of major palatial inns welcoming mass amounts of people to stay as long as they desire

Architecture

Eshonian architecture takes heavy use of marble and stone over metal. The chief goal of nearly every building in Eshonia is appearance. The walls and streets are cleaned multiple times per day in order to keep them nearly shining. People tend to decorate their homes with the signs and decorations of their patron deity or preferred guild or order.

Geography

Eshonia is located right on the coast of Glassay Bay. The immediate surroundings are beautiful grasslands that almost look a sea of green in the early mornings.

Natural Resources

Various sea creatures from the nearby Bay along with coral, shells, and other water related resources. They also have access to timber thanks to trade from its surrounding cities.
