The Conflict
Prelude
The first son of Prince Erick Ainros, who was briefly the heir to the Crown of Revellia, Prince Allad Ainros was disinherited by his uncle, Garland III "the Grim" during the First Brothers Rebellion. The rebellion resulted in Prince Erick's death, but Prince Allad was declared the heir of his Uncle Garland, who had no sons. This all changed when Garland's first queen died in a failed childbirth. Garland quickly remarried, and Prince Galvan was born the Summer of 841 RA. Allad, then age fourteen, fled with his sister Eina to the Green Isle. His mother, Queen Messenger, had been imprisoned in the Cold Moat and died of a chill. His brother Griiyan, age twelve, was a squire in service to King Garland himself, and was not trusted.
Prince Allad was invited (and eventually convinced) to negotiate peace with
Garland on the King's deathbed. It was agreed that the King's young son,
Galvan, would assume the crown, but that
Allad would govern the realm as High Magus until Galvan entered majority. At the time, "High Magus" was a term for "Regent," a concept that did not then exist in Revellia.
Despite the suspicions of many,
Prince Allad would rule for twelve peaceful years, helping the canton recover from two terrible wars. Upon his fourteenth year,
Galvan declared he was not yet wise enough to assume the crown, and would put off his own coronation until the age of fifteen. This would later be cited in arguments that led Revellia to embrace the eighteenth year as the year of majority, as would then be standard in
Host Keeping cantons.
Historical Significance
Garland the Grim was not a popular king. High and low alike tend to side with
Prince Allad, who was robbed of his inheritance, and who selflessly governed the realm until Galvan came of age. Yet it must not be forgotten:
Allad was the grandson of
Garland the Glorious' second wife, and whether he was ever the true heir could easily be contested. Moreover, however peaceful his magistry was, it takes two to fight a war, and
Allad chose to make war against his uncle.
More than anything, many spells and tellings have been crafted about the love between
Prince Allad and his betrothed,
Princess Fianna'al. They had been betrothed since infancy, but the war separated them. They would ultimately wed a little over a year after the war's end. Very little is actually known about their relationship, but much has been assumed and said about their great love, and the tragedy of their separation during the war.
