Springlight Fever Condition in Ardre | World Anvil

Springlight Fever

Though typically contracted at the year's beginning, Springlight Fever can be caught any time during the Spring. It was named for the sudden increase in daylight that Spring brings, which has often been said to dazzle the unready.   In addition to shivers and cold sweats, Springlight Fever is known for dilating the eyes of its victim and impairing their vision. Survivors of Springlight Fever, rare though they are, suffer poor vision or even blindness for the rest of their lives.   Springlight can kill within a mere twenty-four hours, but it is more common for the victim to live up to a full fortnight before passing.   Springlight is not generally thought to be contagious, but there is an old and persistent witch's tale that it can be caught by looking into the eyes of a stricken person.   Unofficially, there is a second strain of Springlight that is somewhat less deadly, though far more debilitating. Survivors of this second strain will not only have poor vision or no vision at all, they are terribly weakened, many of them unable even to stand or walk. Such survivors typically last another year before contracting Springlight again the following Spring and passing. Lord Dannus Hunter of Berleigh was famously said to have contracted this second strain of Springlight four times before finally dying. Supposedly, he spent his final year unable to move at all, and was kept alive by his youngest great granddaughter feeding him broth each morning and evening.
