Wynid Wild

Wizard Wynid (a.k.a. Wynid Wild)

The Wizard who served Prince Allad Ainros during the Second Brothers Rebellion (841 RA to 844 RA), Wynid Wild was called a sorceress, conjurer, and charmer, a beast and a beauty, a terror and savior. Little is known of her, despite her serving openly in Allad's army during their landward campaign. She is credited with commanding storms to ignore the Ithir Plains and instead sink enemy ships. She is said to have summoned werewolves from the Fiirwood to savage sleeping soldiers, and to have birthed grimlings from beneath the ground to steal the souls of children and harry troops during battle.   Wynid was known, or at least rumored, before her discovery by Prince Allad. She had been living in the Rocky Woods on the Green Isle, integrated into the lives of the Evergreen Folk. It is possible she was one of the Evergreen Folk herself. Those who believe the Evergreens to be elegant, mysterious, advanced people often name her one of them, while those who see them as savage and bestial will often depict her as a "normal" Milosian who tried to command them but fell to savagery herself.   Prince Allad, at one of his most desperate moments in the Rebellion, somehow convinced Wynid to join his cause. Despite living in the Rocky Woods, Wynid was as skilled in spelling and magics as any other Wizard, and quickly took to spelling missives to other nations, asking aid for Allad's cause. Sadly, none were successful. In the histories, the Prince would prove less forthcoming about Wynid's other magics, whether they were real, and whether any such was done at his behest.   Shortly into the eastward campaign from Dubraigh toward Great Cross, Allad separated himself from the main army, leaving his forces in command of the Lord of the Green Isle and Wynid herself. Publicly, this decision was made in order for the Prince to take advantage of his growing naval power, yet it has also often been said that he wished to separate himself from the increasingly dark reputation Wynid was garnering. In addition to summoning monsters and commanding storms, Wynid was said to make blood sacrifices to the Deinain in order to propagate her powers, often the sacrifice of children and babes in arms. Her own soldiers feared her, and it is said Lord Bormich of the Green Isle handed command over to her entirely when she threatened the life of his son and heir, who was hundreds of miles away at Aintorq, the castle on the Green Isle. Lord Bormich's son would indeed die during the Rebellion of strange circumstance, though Bormich would not learn this until the war was over.   Wynid's end is unknown. By the time Prince Allad made his peace with King Garland the Third, she had vanished somewhere in the Revellian mainland. Garland is reported to have demanded Wynid's death as part of the peace negotiations, to which Allad responded, "If you can find her and command her, then her blood is yours."   Many say Wynid returned to the Green Isle, riding on storm clouds that served her. Many note that Clan Sirtal, placed in power at Dubraigh during Allad's rule as High Magus, use a storm cloud as their sigil; they wonder if Wynid hid there, or even commands them in secret. Others say she wandered the Peninsula sowing chaos. Some even suggest she returned, years and decades later, in the guise of Jaell Shadowmaster, another mysterious Wizard who would come to serve King Gwydion the Great.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Wynid was said to go ever concealed beneath a great grey cloak of roughspun. Some say she carrying a gnarled walking stick with her to support her weak frame, while others say she had a great staff with which to work her magics.   She was alternately called ancient and stooped, or tall and beautiful. She was called hunched and brutal, with the sloping brow some associate with the Evergreen Folk; and also she was called commanding and graceful with the earthen skin of the Liddinawths to the east. She was called elegant and seductive of speech by some, and a hulking brute who grunted and growled by others.

Social

Religious Views

Wynid was assumed to be a Deinain worshiper. This is hard to reconcile with her evidently deep knowledge of northern magics, something so heavily regulated by the Host of Hosts. It may be her worship of the Aernigh gods was an invention of those who feared her.
