Paladins of Vell

The Paladins of Vell were the well organized policing arm of the state known for their devotion to the office of Emperor of Vell . Chosen from the oldest and wealthiest families of Vell, these acolytes of the state worked tirelessly to insure compliance with the Law by all citizens. Their activities included open armed police patrols and para-military activities, military activities as part of the Army of Vell, and as secret police.   They were divided into 3 main branches. First the ORDER OF VELL, who handled all police activities inside the City of Vell. Then the GREEN ORDER, who worked in the territories outside Vell that was under its rule. Finally the ORDER OF MARTIUS who were an elite unit that although autonomous of served alongside the Army of Vell. The Order of Vell had their headquarters in the TOWER OF VELL. From their the Grand Master General directed his order and lead the coordination with the Green Order and the Order of Martius. It was also the prison where the political prisoners they took were held and subject to the Inquisitors. It was from this tower that ROLEN was expelled, starting him on the course that would lead him from a junior Paladin to the leader of the Army of Chaos, and eventually to rule in the newly constituted KINGDOM OF VELL.   The Green Order was headquartered South of Vell on the far side of the river. There at the Castle Cadmar they directed their activities. This order was more concerned with supporting the landed gentry and their agricultural operations. Their focus was maintaining the order and integrity of the markets and fairs. They also served as a constabulary to deal with bandits and raiders. They did willingly cooperate with the Order of Vell in keeping tight order they simply had less work to do in the countryside and small towns than in the City of Vell itself.   The Order of Martius were simply an elite heavy cavalry and infantry unit. They were not involved heavily in the police and political activities of the other orders. They did provide a source of tough veterans who obeyed orders without question that filled the ranks of the other two alongside the young aristocrats to provide a well trained, disciplined, and zealous force to execute those non-military functions.   Today through most of the World Paladins are still viewed with suspicion, and no government will allow any order of Paladins to establish a house.
