Erhaqui, they call me, though it wasn't always that way. Earlier on, after my parents were hunted down and slain by some unscrupulous sorts, I was left picking up the pieces. Unwanted, uncared for. Alone in a vast sea of people. Kurugas don't tend to flock together, but even still, it hurt not even having a friend to fall on. I had to teach myself everything, from language to functioning in society. I got really good at faking charisma, honing my charm so that I didn't have to 'steal' to survive. Put on enough of a show, and people will give you food. Even if it's only scraps, it was far more than I had available.Statblock
I got so good with charms that it started becoming natural for me. Like, I built up some confidence through all this practice, and didn't have to fake it. Being well enough fed, I was able to fix my poor posture, built some muscle, and steadied my hands. Still, I wasn't content with this lot in life, and sought to leave for new ventures. One afternoon, I overheard a bit about a belios who had been exiled for, quote, 'unnecessary aggression towards our caravans'. In hindsight, I realize that the act of seeking her out to accompany her on the departure was my first mistake, the first mark against me.
Together, we arrived on a relay station. It became quickly obvious that her savage skillset wouldn't win us any favors. Unfortunately, for her, she had to rely on me to get us a place to lay our heads, to earn some money. Another mark against me. One day, though, as I was returning from a trip to the grocer, I realized that she was missing. She hadn't just wandered off, as she would surely have been seen by those I asked. Weeks passed, my worry grew. And then, as I was contemplating taking something to remove the edge, I saw on the holo-tube... well, the figure was armored, but that silhouette in general is very distinct. A few questions to the patrons revealed that it was a gladiator thing out on the fringes of the galaxy. That particular arena, it's said, was out near Munazra . Better than what I had to work off of. As I was leaving to get a ship to pick her up from that hell, she was wreaking havoc on the stadium, though the patrons in the bar were cheering rather than showing any horror at the act.
I didn't even get a chance to shine, though, and just wound up meeting her halfway. No new marks against me, but no favors. She and her new friends had burned their way out of that hell. Took her a while to rebound from the ordeal, but she got a sweet suit of armor out of it all. She and I picked up and headed out to find some new ventures, after a bit of convincing. And then, we met a Cagher . Cora Valion , he called himself.
We three buddied up and rampaged across the stars, showed me what mercenary work was like. I found my calling as a marksman, and helped keep my companions from being poached in the melee. All was well. Until it wasn't. Our streak of luck ran out sooner than later, and we were pushed against a wall during a mission gone sour. Thought it was our end, but when we actually made our way out of it in... mostly one piece, I was left at a crossroads. One path is the life of stillness. Quietness. The other path is that of danger, of exhilaration. Sadly, for too many years, I went down the path of quietness, and found myself on the shores of Dakiupra , working as an escort on the corner of Valley Fringe.
I had my fill, figuratively, and reached out to old contacts. She begrudgingly came in her flashy new ship to pick me up, and then, we were back on task among the stars.
