General Summary

In their dreams, four strangers with no memories of their past are picked off one by one by a mysterious creature dressed in rags that emerges from a yellow mist. As each is brutally murdered, the others see words appear on the wall of the alley through which they are fleeing: me; up. Though each is alone in the dream, two of the strangers cross paths, a male elven bloodmarked and a male human. Just before he is pulled into the mist and killed, the male human speaks the word "save." As the bloodmarked turns to confront his attacker, he is able to form a single word in his own head: wake. As he does so, he and the other strangers are snapped from the dream to a waking nightmare. The four, the bloodmarked, the human, a male dwarf, and a male Ganzi, find themselves trapped in cells, looking on as an emaciated woman dressed like a physician tortures a man strapped to a table with various sharp implements. The prisoners begin calling out objections to the vile scene, and while the woman is distracted, the man is able to kick her towards one of the cells, where the dwarf is able to grab her just long enough to snatch the key ring on her belt. Enraged, the woman turns to violently murder the man on the table, unaware that the prisoners have begun freeing themselves and grabbing blades from her collection. As the dwarf drives his blade deep, the ganzi accidentally slices his own leg. The woman, now looking panicked, flees down a hallway.
