Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 8 / Eire the 5th, 3592 CE / 9-24-19

General Summary

Haskell, Yew, Hemlock, and Rogrim are attempting to destroy the dream infection which has blocked the only remaining exit from this wing of Stonebriar Asylum with a horrific, weeping eye. The eye seems to be covered in some sort of thick clear shell which deflects most of their strikes. Meanwhile, even as it weeps acid, the fanged mouth at the eye's center demands to know "who am I?" in an otherworldly voice. Finally, Haskell prays for inspiration from his god Arepo, and has an idea. When he asks if anyone has a mirror, Hemlock procures one from his shaving kit and directs the reflective surface at the eye. The manifestation immediately crumbles to dust along with the fungal tendrils that had been emanating from it, covering the door. The door to the asylum's main entryway now uncovered, Winter once more warns the party that it is dangerous to venture outside due to the strange creatures lurking within the yellow mist which surrounds the asylum. The party moves into the asylum's foyer. Haskell thinks he hears something on the other side of the double-doors that serve as the asylum's entry way, and when Yew tries to look through them, a massive shape suddenly blocks his view as it slams against the door. Deciding that perhaps whatever is on the other side could be responsible for the mist, the party opens the doors, planning to battle the creature by drawing it in. However, when it does not immediately appear, Rorgrim pokes his head around the doorway, and is horrified to see a large fleshy mass bearing down on him. A battle ensues, and even as the party slices into the monster with their weapons, it seems to grow in power. Hemlock is able to identify that despite its fleshy appearance, the creature is actually some kind of ooze. After several unsuccessful attempts to kill it, the party attempts to buy some time by closing and chaining the asylum's doors, but the flesh monster is able to burst its way inside. Eventually with mighty strikes, and Hemlock's revelation that bludgeoning weapons do not empower it, they are able to destroy the fleshy abomination, but not before it spreads its infection to Yew, Rorgrim, and Hemlock in the form of fleshy tumors. Haskell attempts to aid them by cutting out the newly formed tumors, but only time will tell whether his remedy will work. In the meantime, the party warns Winter to guard the door leading back to the chapel even as they assemble a rough barricade to take the place of the now shattered front doors.
